Steve Spurrier Trolls Tennessee, Alabama Rivalry

The Ol' Troll Master Ball Coach is at it again.

According to Josh Kendall of The State, South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier took a shot at the "rivalry" between Alabama and Tennessee, which is in jeopardy of becoming diminished if the SEC decides to alter its schedule and ban permanent cross-division matchups.

In Spurrier's own words:

This is the work of a master, of a man with a black belt in Troll.

It takes just 16 words for Spurrier to insult Tennessee twice and Alabama once, trivializing the acrimony of their rivalry and reminding the Volunteers that they've lost seven consecutive meetings.

The last four years have been especially brutal, with Alabama winning 45-10, 44-13, 37-6 and 41-10 for a combined score of 167-39.

Spurrier has an impressive history trolling Tennessee, which has long been one of his favorite victims.

Just last season he took a not-so-veiled jab at former Tennessee head coach (and current Alabama offensive coordinator) Lane Kiffin.

"(This) will be the 14th time I've coached in Neyland Stadium," Spurrier said, according to Josh Kendall of The State. "I've coached there more than some of their head coaches."

(Kiffin left after one season and is is the only UT coach since 1964 to not coach 14 home games.)

More than a decade before that—back when he was still coaching at Florida—Spurrier set his sights on a much more difficult target: former Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning.

"I know why Peyton came back for his senior year," said Spurrier in a September 1997 issue of Sports Illustrated after Manning opted not to declare early for the 1997 NFL draft. "He wanted to be a three-time star of the Citrus Bowl."

South Carolina and Tennessee are both in the SEC East, so no matter what happens with the cross-division rivalries, Spurrier should get to face the Vols each year until he leaves Columbia.

And that, my friends, is very good news for Twitter.
