10 Reasons Why Rihanna Is the Ultimate Sports Fan
She's one of the hottest stars going, so who wouldn't love Rihanna?
Talented, stylish, sexy and, yes, an enormous sports fan, RiRi just might be the most perfect lady on the planet.
And while she might not always say or do the right thing when it comes to rooting for the teams we'd like her to, Rihanna has proved to be one of the most ultimate sports fans—and here are the reasons why.
She Knows Her Kicks
One of the best ways to a sports fan’s heart is showcasing rare shoes that he can’t stop staring at.
In Rihanna’s case, she usually gets eyes no matter what she wears.
Still, that doesn’t mean she refuses to flaunt her sneaker game, as she usually wears some hot kicks that any diehard fan would do anything to scoop up—even going as far back as rocking a pair of original Air Jordan’s at a Brooklyn Nets game last season.
She Sings the National Anthem
As I mentioned earlier, Rihanna may have turned her back on the red, white and blue in this year’s World Cup at times, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t still show love for the country.
She proved that by singing the national anthem before a New York Mets game years ago.
Could this have been the beginning of a beautiful sports affinity? Maybe.
Her Fans Are More Powerful
We’ve all seen Twitter wars between a bunch of athletes before, but did anyone really think that we would see one between a pop singer and an athlete?
That’s what happened earlier this year, though, after Olympian Lolo Jones tweeted a snarky little comment towards Rihanna after hearing the news that rapper Drake—who has long been linked to Ri—would be hosting the ESPY Awards in a few weeks.
Well, let’s just say that Lolo found out who had more fans.
Her Dating Habits
It’s hard to keep up with all the celebrity gossip and dating rumors that happen in Hollywood, but one thing’s for sure—Rihanna has been linked to a few athletes.
She Likes Debate
While the entire country seemed to have jumped on the United States men’s national team’s ship these past few weeks during the World Cup, Rihanna showed that she wasn’t much of a fan.
The pop star might spend the majority of her time in the States—even though she was born in Barbados—but she wasn’t shy about going against Team U.S.A. during its match with Germany last week, tweeting out a few unsupportive things against Sam's Army.
She Knows Who to Go for
As a Cleveland sports fan through and through, there's nothing that can make me change the teams I root for—even if staying loyal knocks years off of my life.
Rihanna, though? She doesn't seem to have grown up with a certain team.
Whether it was jumping on the Miami Heat's bandwagon following the signings of the Big Three in 2010 or becoming a lot more visible at L.A. Clippers games once the franchise got better over the past few seasons, RiRi doesn't care what you think of her many allegiances.
She Knows Her Stuff
I already mentioned how she tweeted out her support for the German national team during the World Cup, but Rihanna has also tweeted out a variety of other things about this year’s tournament, proving she knows what’s up.
And what happens when Ri isn’t using her own phone to give her opinion or taking pics of herself at games?
Well, she’s breaking other people’s cellular devices while sitting courtside, of course, as she showed by breaking the L.A. Police Commision President’s phone during an L.A. Clipper game a few months ago—which, yeah, she did replace.
Recruiting Athletes for Jay Z
Although rapper Jay Z is just about as smooth as possible, there are times when he leans on his friends for help.
One of those people just happens to be Rihanna, who was seen kicking it with former Kentucky Wildcats hoops player James Young back in May of this year—which, no doubt, helped land Young as a client for Hova.
To put it bluntly, I’m not sure there’s a man on the planet who could turn down a chance to hang with the singer, and Jay Z clearly takes advantage of this fact.
Athletes Take Notice
One thing that’s very constant throughout this article is that Rihanna is extremely sexy—have I mentioned that a few hundred times already?
And while you or I can say that without a doubt, a few athletes have shown the same kindergarten crush—just ask this year’s NFL No. 1 overall pick, Jadeveon Clowney.
If that’s not enough, RiRi gets players’ attention in other ways, as Dallas Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant tweeted his displeasure with the pop star not wearing his No. 88 jersey in a Twitter picture.
Looks like there’s a little tug-of-war for her.
I’m not sure there’s anything else I need to say here except for, “wow.”
Sitting front row at any sporting event is a privilege that any fan would cherish for the rest of his or her life.
Rihanna does it every single game she goes to, so, of course, whenever she wants to steal a few eyeballs—of players, coaches, fans, commentators and cameras—she’ll wear something that makes her stand out.
You know, like pink hair and a shirt that is a bit revealing.
