With Manchester City desperate to build on their Premier League and League Cup triumphs of last season, you can be sure manager Manuel Pellegrini will be looking to bolster his squad this summer.

Bacary Sagna and Fernando have already arrived, with further additions expected in the coming weeks.

A centre-back partner for Vincent Kompany and goalkeeper to replace the departed Costel Pantilimon appear to be priorities, but with City looking to juggle the rigours of four competitions again this season, other signings are likely.

Departures are also expected. With City's net spend limited this summer after FFP restrictions, they will need to be thrifty in the market for the first time in a while.

With Joe Hart in need of some serious competition at City, a new goalkeeper will be a priority for Pellegrini. Many believe the Chilean is far from sure about Hart’s ability to be a top-class goalkeeper over the long term.

Costel Pantilimon’s exit has increased the need for reinforcements, and according to John Cross in the Mirror, Malaga’s Willy Caballero is close to joining the club for £10 million.

The 32-year-old, a player who has worked under Pellegrini before, is also wanted by Monaco and Barcelona.

Cross also claims that striker Alvaro Negredo is a target for Atletico Madrid.

Rumours have been circulating for some time that he has failed to settle in England, and he is thought to be prepared to take a pay cut to return to La Liga.

Atletico are in need of a striker following Diego Costa's move to Chelsea.

Negredo, who saw his form collapse in the second half of last season, is seen as the perfect replacement.
