Check back throughout the week to see who the papers say Van Gaal has his eye on as he ends his tenure with the national team and prepares to take charge at United.

Arturo Vidal: £40m and Worth Every Penny
According to Jamie Jackson of the Guardian, Arturo Vidal, the all-action Chilean midfield maestro, is "on Louis van Gaal's radar."
With Jackson valuing the Juventus man at around £40 million, United are apparently prepared to offer Nani as a makeweight in the deal.
Nani has apparently "long interested Juventus," and while his best performances would certainly be missed, they have been few and far between in recent seasons.
Vidal would be a spectacular signing. Having already signed Ander Herrera, the acquisition of Vidal would ensure that United's long lacklustre midfield could shine again.
Mats Hummels, Van Gaal's Number One Choice?
Jackson also reports, in the same article, that Germany and Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels is Van Gaal's first choice to fill the void left by the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
Having scored the only goal in Germany's World Cup quarter-final defeat of France, Hummels may have his mind on other things at the moment, but he would be a fine addition should he be interested in a move once the World Cup is over.
United in for Perez?
Colin Harvey of the Daily Star reports that United may be set to offer £23.7 million for Argentina and Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez.
La Liga side Valencia had been thought to be favourites for his signature "but reports in Portugal claim United have come in with a late bid," according to Harvey. United are apparently seeking to take advantage of delay in the completion of the Valencia deal.
United Told to Raise Janmaat Bid?
The Dutch club have apparently asked for a revised bid of around £7 million if United wish to take Janmaat to Old Trafford.
Zaha to Toon?
According to Simon Jones of the Daily Mail, Alan Pardew will bid for Wilfried Zaha, should Van Gaal decide that the young winger is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
Having spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff City, the former Crystal Palace man's future at United remains uncertain. Pardew retains an interest in the player and reportedly tried to take him on loan to Newcastle last January.
Are United Chasing Ricardo Rodriguez?
Ricardo Rodriguez had a fine World Cup, catching the eye as Switzerland progressed to the knock-out stages.
The Wolfsburg left-back has been the subject of a "concrete offer" according to German newspaper The Wolfsburger Allgemeine (h/t the Metro).
It seems odd that United would pursue a top-class left-back given their expensive acquisition of Luke Shaw. Simon Jones of the Daily Mail suggests that Juventus' interest in Patrice Evra may be part of the reason United are keen on Rodriguez.
Conflicting Reports on Vidal
Transfer rumours do not come much more opposed than these. Liam Prenderville writes in the Daily Mirror that talks regarding United's pursuit of Vidal are "well underway."
On the other hand, Julian Shea of the Metro reports that United "have failed" in their bid for Vidal.
Given what an ideal signing Vidal appears, many United fans will be hoping the former is more accurate.
Patrice Evra Heading for the Old Lady?
David Anderson of the Daily Mirror reports that Patrice Evra is leaving Manchester United for £1.2 million to join Juventus.
The player will apparently be given a two-year £55,000 per week contract to ply his trade in Turin.
Evra had signed a one-year extension on his United contract, but now looks set to head to Italy.
He will be missed at Old Trafford, where he is seen by fans as a player who "gets" what it means to play for Manchester United.
Is De Vrij Lazio Bound?
The report suggests United had been closing in on a £7 million deal for the Dutch youngster. It goes on to quote Lazio sporting director Igli Tare as saying:
Many things have been said and written about De Vrij and his transfer to United but this is not true.
Will De Vrij head for Italy? Or is this all a smokescreen for his reunion with Louis van Gaal? Time will tell.
Guys! It's a Wesley Sneijder to Manchester United Rumour!!!
Rob Bleaney of the Guardian reports that links are once again being made about potential United interest in Wesley Sneijder.
Ah, summertime. When the fruit hangs from the trees, the flowers are in bloom, the air is warm and Manchester United are linked with Wesley Sneijder.
Manchester United have been linked with Wesley Sneijder so often, fans all over the world can correctly spell his surname without looking it up.
Anyway, this time around Galatasaray have apparently valued Sneijder at around £16 million. This one will run and run.
Di Maria Doubts?
The picture is mixed regarding Argentina and Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria and a possible transfer to Manchester United.
On one hand Charles Reynolds of the Indpendent says Di Maria has agreed personal terms with United "according to reports."
On the other, John Cross of the Daily Mirror reports that Di Maria "will snub" United.
Then there is the middle ground, in which James Ducker of the Times (subscription required) reports that United are keeping a "watching brief" on Di Maria.
All the while the player is presumably occupied with trying to get himself fit enough to take part in the World Cup Final on Sunday.
It's all very confusing for fans. Di Maria would be a wonderful addition to the squad, and according to the papers it either is, isn't or might be happening.
Vidal Discusses His Future
Arturo Vidal has discussed his future with Chilean newspaper La Tercera (h/t Mail Online).
Vidal is reported to have said, when asked about a potential move to United:
I'm very calm, but anyone would love to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.
That sound you hear is the sound of millions of United fans getting their hopes up...
With that we bring to a close the transfer rumour tracker for the week. If United end up with any of the players they have been linked to in the past seven days, it will have to go down as an excellent transfer window.
