Germany is the 2014 world champion!

It took extra time to find a winner, but Mario Gotze proved up to the task. The substitute took a beautiful lob pass, controlled it with his chest, turned and fired the ball past Argentina's keeper for the lone goal of the match.

Argentina will surely look back at its missed chances, especially Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain, who botched wide-open looks on goal. Germany wins its first World Cup title since 1990 and its fourth overall. A fitting ending to a great World Cup, as the best team came out on top.
