According Portuguese outlet O Bola (via NBC Sports), Chelsea are set to beat Arsenal to the capture of Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho.

The reported is fee is around £33 million, with Carvalho set to challenge the likes of Nemanja Matic and John Obi Mikel for a place in Jose Mourinho's team.

What Carvalho's rumoured arrival means for other players at Chelsea is unclear as the Blues are already top heavy with overseas players.

Premier League regulations state 17 non-homegrown players are permitted in a 25-man squad, with the remaining eight consisting of those who have been developed in British academies.

Chelsea have 18 already, so should Carvalho join, two more will have to leave.

His future at Real Madrid has been under intense scrutiny since the World Cup, and on Monday, Charles Perrin of the Daily Express reported that Sami Khedira could be heading to London.

The German's agent is believed to be in the English capital attempting to seal a move to Arsenal or Chelsea.

It's believed he may be available for just £12 million, too, as Real look to balance the books after a busy summer that has seen them sign James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos.

Of the Gunners and the Blues, it's believed Chelsea will be Khedira's preferred destination.

Jose Mourinho denied Chelsea were in the race for Mehdi Benatia's signature at a press conference I attended last week, but the rumours haven't gone away.

The Daily Star's Rhys Turrell is now reporting the Blues remain in the hunt, however, with Roma setting a deadline for this Sunday (Aug. 24) for any deal to be done.

Manchester United are one of the other clubs apparently interested in the £30 million-rated defender, so Chelsea may well have a fight on their hands if they're to bring the Moroccan to Stamford Bridge.

Since being released by Chelsea, Samuel Eto'o has been on a tour of England to find a new club, it seems.

The rumours have been persistent, and now, Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club reportedly interested in his services, according to a report by Alex Harris of the Daily Express.

Spurs have just Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor as their senior strikers at White Hart Lane, so Mauricio Pochettino is eager to add some more experience to his front line.

Eto'o is apparently demanding £100,000 per week in wages, a figure that put Liverpool off signing him.

It remains to be seen if Spurs will accept his demands.
