The 10 Best Footballer #IceBucketChallenge Videos
The #IceBucketChallenge has spread like wildfire across the Internet over the past few days, as folks all around the world dunk ice cold water on their heads in order to raise awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Naturally, the global meme has been embraced by many in the beautiful game, who are using their status to help the fight against the disease.
Since each person typically nominates three others, the videos are increasing exponentially. Here's the 10 best featuring footballers that we've found so far, starting with Cristiano Ronaldo in a state of undress.
When Cristiano Ronaldo was challenged by former Manchester United teammate Darren Fletcher, he saw an opportunity to raise awareness of something very important to him. We're referring to the charity, of course, not his own brand of underwear.
The Real Madrid star takes a double ice dunking in his undies, but not before calling out some of his friends in the U.S. music scene: Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Lil Wayne.
Whether they all choose to strip down to their skimpies remains to be seen...
Manchester City star Vincent Kompany manages to drag his clip out to nearly two minutes, as teammates Edin Dzeko and Joe Hart brace themselves to lift a gigantic bucket of ice water over the lanky Belgian's head.
Kompany wins kudos for the sheer amount of water poured over him, and his nominations feature Belgian heroes including national team manager Marc Wilmots and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Here's to hoping that JCVD kicks the bucket—in a literal "roundhouse" sense, not a metaphorical one.
Ryan Babel's contribution to the ice bucket canon was a timely reminder that Ryan Babel still exists.
Now playing at Kasimpasa in Turkey, the Dutch winger pulls a fantastically terrified face as the cold water comes toward him. Then, after emitting some guttural noises, he jumps straight into a pool to recover.
So far in this transfer window, Marco Reus has avoided the cold shoulder from his Borussia Dortmund teammates by staying put with the Schwarzgelben. However, his BVB colleagues literally gave him cold shoulders with a gigantic ice shower.
Reus even manages to sneak in a nomination for one of his assailants (and fellow Manchester United transfer target, per Tom Sheen of The Independent) Mats Hummels.
On Monday, Mario Balotelli accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge and poured freezing water over his own head at the Milanello.
Super Mario lets out a very impressive scream, and then, in typical Balotelli style, the video cuts out before he can make his nominations. For the record, the Milan forward challenged Micah Richards, Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien.
There's no foreplay in Mesut Ozil's effort—he gets straight to the drenching. This model of efficiency is only paused when he instinctively has to take a moment to place his arms under his armpits and shudder.
The Arsenal midfielder also goes pretty "big time" with his nominations. Along with pop star girlfriend Mandy Capristo, the World Cup winner calls out Rihanna and Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose.
He's either showing off that he has friends in high places or trying to make some friends in high places.
John Terry's Ice Bucket Challenge video is notable for many reasons.
First, the Chelsea defender appears to have emptied out a dressing room bin to pour the water over himself.
Second, he nominates former manager and Blues hate figure Rafa Benitez to step up, potentially bringing us the sight of the rotund Spaniard in a wet T-shirt.
Finally, his girlish whooping at the end appears to be a mixture of excitement and regret.
Nigel De Jong
Warning: Clip contains swearing
Nigel de Jong accepted his Ice Bucket nomination from Kevin Prince Boateng with a typically terrifying demeanour, before taking his self-dunking like a man.
The Dutch star then nominates Wesley Sneijder, Robin van Persie and Joleon Lescott before letting out a naughty swear word.

After their schooling at the hands of Salford City—the club that they own—Paul Scholes helped former Manchester United teammate Gary Neville fulfill his Ice Bucket Challenge duties.
As you can see, G-Nev does not find the experience entirely pleasurable, letting out a curse word that may have been directed at any number of people.
When asked who he wishes to nominate, he simply points at the Ginger Ninja beside him. Of course, Scholes duly obliged.
With his tattooed torso and no-nonsense attitude, one would imagine that Dani Alves would take a cold dousing in stride.
However, the Brazilian defender clearly needs to pump himself up for the main event and lets out a brilliant scream during and afterward.
Alves nominates supermodel Adriana Lima (who, sadly, hasn't accepted at the time of writing) and his Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi, who took the challenge on in his underpants, just like his pal, Cristiano.
