The fourth preseason game—what does it mean? Often not much, but both the Houston Texans and the San Francisco 49ers probably plan to play several starters who haven't played well so far and could use a few extra reps.

Even if they play, don't expect it to be for long. Over the majority of this game, what will be at stake are roster spots between reserves and starting spots between players locked into position battles.

In particular, you should pay close attention to the performances between Texans quaterbacks Case Keenum and Tom Savage. If Savage outplays Keenum again, the former Houston Cougar could find himself without a job come Friday.

Battles at cornerback, inside linebacker and for the fifth wide receiver role are also worth watching for during Thursday night's game, which is set to kick off at 8 p.m. ET from NRG Stadium in Houston.
