Well, the wait is over now. Canucks GM Mike Gillis has announced that they have signed Kyle Wellwood to a $1.2 Million dollar contract. The arbitration started this past Tuesday and now is officially complete.
Agent Mike Liut and Wellwood must have proven their point to the mediator during the arbitration because now Wellwood's walking away with $200,000 more then what he was offered to re-sign for, which was only $2,500 more than what he got last year.
Even though he got that, does he deserve it? Should we have let him go, because there's no room for another center; or do we need a guy who can score 20 goals for us for only $1.2 million.
Truth is, $1.2 million is a pretty fair deal for a guy who can score 20 goals a year, show's off some fancy hands and adds depth to the team. The future only holds good things for him with the Vancouver franchise. The only thing to do is wait and see how it all folds out this season for him and the Vancouver Canucks.
"Good job Wellwood," we'll see you when the season starts!
