The 49ers started their 2009 preseason last Friday with a 17-16 win over the Denver Broncos. Head coach Mike Singletary got a sneak peak at his three quarterbacks, Alex Smith, Shaun Hill, and Damon Huard. Who can fill the hole in the 49ers starting quarterback position?

There were signs of relief coming out of the game. The mistakes were limited. When it came to the three quarterbacks. Damon Huard saw most of the playing time, completing seven of nine passes for 98 yards and a touchdown. Alex Smith went five of seven for 33 yards and a touchdown. Shaun Hill played only one series, completing both of his passes.

Strengths and weaknesses is what Mike Singletary will have to look for in Alex Smith, Shaun Hill, and Damon Huard in order to decide who will be the starting quarterback for the 49ers. This process will continue when the 49ers host the Oakland Raiders on Saturday.
