MLB, AL East, New York Yankees, Alex Rodriguez

The last two weeks have been a disaster for the New York Yankees.

With Alex Rodriguez coming back tomorrow, hopefully things can get back on track from what has been going on the last couple weeks.

Phil Hughes was sent to the DL. Ian Kennedy was sent down to the minors, did well in Scranton, then came back and did not fair so well in the majors again. In his absence, Kei Igawa managed an 11-hit, six-earned-run campaign in just three innings of work. He has once again proved that he is not even close to being a major league pitcher, let alone the Yankees' answer to Dice K.

Those are just the pitching struggles. With Jorge Posada and Alex Rodriguez on the DL, the offense has been very flat. In the last two weeks, the Yankees are averaging just two runs a game, including an 11-2 drubbing by the Mets last night.

Alex Rodriguez's absence is not only expressed in his bat not being there for the numbers he puts up, but also as protection for the rest of the line which has been virtually non-existent, especially with RISP.

Also, is Robinson Cano going to have this "slow" start every year? The kid is barely over the Mendoza line, and we are already half way through May! His bat is needed desperately.

This is an offense that lead the majors in runs last year, and as of today, they are 10th in the AL in runs scored for this season.

Help is needed, and hopefully Alex can spark plug this offense and get the Yankees back on track.

Even with all the doom and gloom discussed above, the Yankees are only 6.5 games out of first in the AL East, and it's the Rays who they are chasing. I think we can all agree the Rays have to fade at some point, right?
