NEW YORK - JUNE 25: NBA Commissioner David Stern poses for a photograph with the fifth overall draft pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Ricky Rubio during the 2009 NBA Draft at the Wamu Theatre at Madison Square Garden June 25, 2009 in New York City. ESPN is reporting that Ricky Rubio, DKV Joventut and Barcelona Regal have agreed that the Spanish sensation will play for Barcelona Regal for the next two years.

This comes as a major disappointment to Timberwolves fans.

(Long pause and deep breath).

I hope Wolves fans don't blame the kid though. ESPN is reporting that his buyout was over $8 million.  That's just too much for the kid who has only been making $100,000 a year. After signing his new deal with Barcelona Regal, Ricky Rubio will be a Minnesota Timberwolf for the 2011/2012 season. He'll only be 20 years old.

It's OK, Timberwolves fans. Take another deep breath.

Now realize that we have Jonny Flynn. I'm ecstatic. I love Jonny Flynn's game but I love his leadership and swagger even more. You can see superstar written all over this kid. I was actually a little worried that Rubio playing the PG position also, taking minutes away from him there, might stunt his growth a bit. Now we don't have to worry about that.

You can mark Jonny Flynn down right now as the Rookie of the Year. The Commish said it first! He's going to get 30-plus minutes a game now. He's going to score a lot and he's going to get a ton of assists to Big Al and K-Love.

For the next two years we get to see what Jonny Flynn can do. If he does what I think he's going to do, Ricky Rubio will probably be traded for more assets. Rubio will only grow in trade value from this point on. Don't pay any attention to the naysayers or the Kahn bashers. The Timberwolves have really lost nothing here.

So what do the Timberwolves do now?

Look for the Wolves to sign SG/SF Rodney Carney.  Don't be too surprised if Carney starts at SG for the Wolves this year.

A projected Depth Chart:

PF Kevin Love - Oleksiy Pecherov - Darius Songaila
SF Ryan Gomes - Corey Brewer - Brian Cardinal
C Al Jefferson - Ryan Hollins - Mark Blount
SG *Wayne Ellington - Damien Wilkins
PG Jonny Flynn - Chucky Atkins - Bobby Brown

*Watch for the Rodney Carney signing and then insert him here.
