Below is a list of who Notre Dame is recruiting for the incoming class of 2009. It includes commits, offers as well as the rest. Domer Sports Report will update this list whenever it is warranted. We will also write articles, breaking down the offensive and defensive recruits, at a later date. We will be including more details about each recruit. But, for now, this is a comprehensive list of those outstanding high school recruits that Charlie Weis and company are recruiting.

Impressive list of recruiting. The question is, what will Weis do with the recruits? There has never been a question about his ability to recruit. The bigger question is will he coach them to their full potential? If he can do do that, then his future at Notre Dame will be secure. If he can't, his hot seat will be burning. This is the year he makes his case for patience being rewarded.
Good luck to your Irish! :)

Lisa, you are right. It will all come down to coaching the talent. If Notre Dame does not succeed now, it will not be because of a lack of talent. It will be because the coaching staff did not "coach them up".

Two things:
Wiess sucks at coaching and talent development. Also, on the recruiting wish list, someone should probably recruit Jenny Craig or Richard Simmons. Wow, Weiss is fat. That picture makes him look like he could be floating above the stadium with an advertisement on his ass.

Don't make fun of the guy, he gets the top talent available and he tried to lose the weight. He went to get operated on and they did the procedure wrong and it almost left him dead. If it wasn't for Charlie, they would recruit like Willingham and would have been even worse last year. Charlie is the only thing keeping the program alive and he has made the admissions staff happy (six consecutive semesters of 3.0 GPA or higher). This will alow him to get borderline recruits that will be for the better of the program. Wish they get Jelani Jenkins, Manti Te'o, Marlon Brown, Shaquelle Evans, Rueben Randle, Xavier Nixon, Branden Smith, Devon Kennard, Anthony Lalota, and Chris Watt (if they get two or three I would be happy). YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

Mark-
Got to be honest with you...not a big Weis fan, if only because his 3-9 record last year was poor considering he played against some teams with no blue-chippers. Couple that with the fact that I have butted heads with the school (don't go there...I have had some serious email exchanges with some higher ups at Notre Dame) and the myopic view that the Irish tend to have towards their program, and I am a bit sour on them. Let me put it this way- I used to depend on them to give my school (USC) a bump in SOS, and that hasn't happened lately.
I want ND to be the powerhouse that they once were. It's good for college football. It's good for USC! I just don't think that Weis is a great head coach. Some OC's are not made to be great coaches. Look at Norm Chow- great OC. He will never get a HC job. He's too one-dimensional. As far as Weis, I'd like to see him give the school some return on their dough. If he doesn't beat SDSU by 30 points, then he needs to update his resume. BIG TIME.

Lisa:
I am not necessarily a big Weis fan, either. I was once on a message board and was saying that his son should not be on the sidelines calling in plays. Well, Maura, Charlie's wife, contacted Notre Dame, who contacted the website - and I was banned. Weis actually lives right across from my subdivision.
One things is for sure - he and his staff are recruiting very well. Like I said - if ND doesn't win now, it is due to coaching and not talent.

Lisa-
Your view is shared by many fans and no offense an obvious expression in your lack of actually playing the game.
In terms of being a head coach these days, it is not just about what is done on Saturday. In reality, being a head coach is more comparable to a CEO. In this regard, Weis is doing an awesome job.
4 years ago, ND had multiple issues. The biggest one was talent. The talent in South Bend was weak at best in comparison to the teams ND is compared to in the media. ND will always be measured against programs like USC, Michigan and Florida. Not the middle of the pack in conf teams.
4 years ago people were saying that ND should lower its admission standards to get better kids. It was thought that the reason why ND was not getting the kids was due to the admissions, NOT the effort of the staff. Not many people are talking about this now. We all know why.
In terms of player development, if you had played football at any level, you would understand that this comes from a combination of talent, experience and a solid position coach. If you were to rate college players you would give a grade in each one of these areas and then add up the sum.
If you go back to the Quinn class, they had talent but until they were matched with proper position coaches, they were unproductive. It was not until Weis showed up did Quinn excel. This is because when Weis walked in the door, Quinn had 2 years of experience, a tremendous amount of talent and has Weis to work with. JC and DC know the program which is why they left SC and came to SB. If Norm Chow was still there, it might have been a different story for USC with these two kids.
Last year ND had 3 players with Talent, Experience and Coaching. 3 players out of the 30 that played meaningful time. If you look at every game that ND lost last year, every team had more than 3 well rounded players. ND did not belong on the same field as USC and Michigan. Those were teams were loaded. When you look at GT, PSU, MSU and Purdue, these teams had good kids with a ton of experience. Boston College peaked with all 3 last year. The two service teams also had more experience and were good team going 17-9 last year. This against 3 rounded players and a bunch of True Frosh and Soph. When you look at it this way and not from a "fan" perspective, you can see the light. You can call coaching out as an issue if your 3rd and 4th years players do not show a massive improvement. FYI, CS first class that he had more than a month to put together enter their 3rd year this fall.
Outside of what happens on Saturday, Weis has kept the program out of the press and courts. Unlike others. When kids act up, they are suspended for semesters and not for the cupcake games, regardless of what it could do to the win loss record.
He upgraded the position coaches by the addition of John T. all the while keeping CB happy and making that work. He has removed himself from play calling so he can manage his coaches better so they can develop players more effectively. All of these things are signs of a great coach.
But here is my closing point and the reason I am happy with Weis. He has stacked the roster with talent and did it without payoffs, bending in admissions or lack of integrity. If he were to be let go, at the very least he is going to leave behind a great opportunity for the next guy. A 180 from what was dumped in his lap a couple of years ago. Just for this alone, Weis has been worth EVERY PENNY.

Great write CJ.
Charlie would need a season like last year to not be here at least 5 years.
It's true that the talent and depth is building, but the great recruits are still only juniors this year with very little senior and 5th year support. Very little!
IMO the most talent is still in the sophomore class.
I'm expecting 7 wins next year, no excuses.
The real test for the coaches will be to field a BCS quality team in 2009.
The depth and talent should be boiling over by then.
