It was apparent on Tuesday night that Tom Glavine did not have his best stuff. He allowed six hits, four walks, and four earned runs in just three innings of work against baseball's hottest home team, the Chicago Cubs.
However, it was more than just an inability to locate his pitches. It turns out he pulled himself out of the game due to soreness in his pitching elbow.
Glavine was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list for the second time in his 20-year career. His first stint was earlier this season.

"I've been trying to battle through it and fight through it. But eventually it just comes to a point where I'm not helping us," Glavine said. "As much as I want to fight through it, tonight was just a point where enough was enough."
This injury comes at a bad time for the Braves, as their starting rotation continues to appear older and more frail than they had hoped. Mike Hampton is currently on the disabled list and John Smoltz just underwent shoulder surgery.
The Braves now have to make the decision as to who will fill Glavine's spot in the rotation. They may call up either Chuck James or Charlie Morton from Richmond later this week.
James has been unimpressive in five starts at the major league level this year, with an ERA at 8.22. Morton has never pitched in the big leagues, but he has posted good numbers at Triple A.
