Here is the season review for the Montreal Canadiens for the 2007-2008 NHL season.

2007-2008 Record: 47-25-10, 104 points, first in Northeast, first in East.

Head Coach: Guy Carbonneau

General Manager: Bob Gainey

Top Three Players: Alexei Kovalev, Mark Streit, Carey Price

Team MVP: Alexei Kovalev, F, 82-35-49-84-70, plus-18.  After being a minus-19 and scoring only 47 points all of last year, Kovalev had a huge season, breaking out and leading Les Canadiens in scoring (goals, assists, and points).  He also had the highest plus/minus rating on the team, and led them in points during their two round playoff run.  He has shown that he indeed is not done in the NHL, and has many years left.

Rookie of the Year: Carey Price, G.  He should have gotten a nod for NHL rookie of the year, and he would have if he had played a full season.  Either way, he does not need an NHL award to show how good he is.  Although he seemed to crack under pressure in the playoffs, he showed that he is going to be a franchise goalie for this team at age 20, and he will carry the load from now on.

Bust: Michael Ryder, F.  With only 31 points in just under eighty games, and a negative plus/minus rating, Ryder had a less-than-ideal season on this talented Canadiens’ team.  I have faith that he will bounce back, though, and have a 50-point campaign next season.

Surprise: Tomas Plekanec, F.  I did not see him getting 69 points this year, and he did.  He played very well defensively as well, and was one of the people that helped the Canadiens win the Eastern Conference in the regular season.
