I know I'm probably in the minority here, but...
Tom Osborne and the rest of Husker Nation—give Bill Callahan a chance!
Callahan can right the ship if you let him. After all, he's done it before.
In 2005, Nebraska was reeling at 5-5, with many people questioning Callahan before Kansas State came to Lincoln in November.
The result?
Jordan Congdon made a 45-yard FG with less than a minute left to give the Huskers a come-from-behind 27-25 win.
- B/R Ticket Guide
In their next game, Nebraska blasted Colorado 30-3, and the players showed their "Restore the Order" shirts underneath their pads.
Then came the big one: Nebraska, down 28-17 early in the fourth quarter, came back to beat Michigan 32-28 in the Alamo Bowl.
So why the sudden push to send Callahan to Interstate 80 with a "Will Work for Food" sign?
I think many Husker fans have forgotten what happened just two years ago.
I know there's a lot of talk about how some players have given up on the coaches, and I know a lot of people have lost faith in Callahan.
But what if he gets the players playing with fire again? What if the Huskers show they can be the team everyone said they'd be?
What if Callahan's boys end up 9-3 or 8-4 at the end of the season?
There's also the other side of the spectrum — the possible implosion of this team.
It's very possible that these guys could toss the rest of the campaign into the dumpster, and limp to a 4-8 finish.
If that happens, T.O. has no choice but to get Callahan out of town as fast as possible.
There's no telling what might happen — especially in the 2007 college football season. Anything is possible.
Remember Husker fans, Callahan has pulled through some messes before—and he can do it again.
All you have to do is give him a chance.

The thing is, the program wasn't that messy before he got there. Solich had a 58-19 record for the Huskers in the six years he was there. They won 9 games in five of those years. They finished in the top 10 three times. Before that, Osborne went 255-49-3, and we all know how his teams fared in the 80s and 90s. Right now, Callahan is 26-18 in his fourth year at Nebraska. You mention that Callahan can "right the ship if you let him. After all, he's done it before." That was his own fault. He took over and the program suffered. They didn't even make a bowl in 2004. If you're going to take over a program that has been great - not good, but great - for 30+ years, completely overhaul the program, change offenses, diminish the walk on program that flourished under Osborne and Solich, and the guys you specifically brought in to run your offense are now sitting at 4-3 and the three losses, two at home, have been by a combined 84 points, then you better be ready to explain yourself. I say fire the guy and bring Bo Pelini or Turner Gill back to "right the ship."

If it wasn't that messy then why did you fire Solich? If you think things are bad now...go back to the wishbone baby. Nebraska is getting exactly what is deserves because too many people are living in the past. Look around...everyone is fighting the parity game...Florida State, Penn State, Michigan, Texas, Colorado, UCLA, Georgia, Tennessee...all the bigwig schools are fighting parity and the effects of the 85 scholarship rule. Nebraska is stuck on this restore the order mindset where they think they can just walk on the field and win because they have the N on the helmet and a sea of red behind them.
The days of being a perpetual 10 game winner every season for more than three years in a row are just about over, and if it is being done, you can look directly at soft scheduling (aka Ohio State). I think it is poetic justice for now you folks are getting a taste of what it is like to be on the other end of 70-7 drubbings. Every dog has its day and Nebraska, get used to it, unless you want to get out of your whiney mind set where we blame coaches and athletic directors.

Callahan was able to do this with leftover talent. Callahan cannot teach the players. He can come up with schemes and plans, but cannot pass this on to the players. There was some ability in the '05 players still left from the Solich/Pellini/Cotton coaching. That is what Bill used to 'right-the-ship'. Now that he has his own players, and they can't show their talent (Bill can't teach that), he has nothing that he can use to fix this. The old school players are gone, and the new school players (although they have talent) don't understand/can't understand what Callahan is 'teaching' them.

Who cares if he won a few games after getting down in the first part of a season. They still had a bad season. If he hadn't of gotten them in the hole in the first place he wouldn't have had to "right the ship" in the first place. For Nebraska's good, get him out of town as soon as possible.

Bill Callahan's problem is alot more than how many games he's won and lost........ Nebraskans have a pride built on hard work (teamwork) and tradition. Callahan has tried to scrap all of the old traditions and shown that he doesn't care to connect with players - past or present. Osborne and Solich were so great because they understood the tradition.......... they reached out to past players and showed they cared. Callahan thinks it's all about just his win/loss record - that proves he doesn't have a clue about Big Red tradition and never will. Get him out now !!!!!!!!!!!

If Solich was such a great coach, why didn't he get a better job than Ohio? They are 3-4 so far and were spanked by Turner Gill. Talk about winning with leftover talent--Solich did the same during his tenure at Nebraska. The biggest question about him was recruiting, something he couldn't do. Sure he brought in a few good players as an assistant, but he had Osborne's reputation backing him up.

Nebraska may have tradition, but right now, why would any blue chip QB, WR, or RB want to go to white ass NEBRASKA? Without a marquee coach in place, it won't happen. These guys have much better destinations, such as warm weather Florida, Texas, Cali... or all the southern babes at the SEC schools.. or current powerhouses like Ohio State and... oh wait, Ohio State is the only current consistent powerhouse in the 2000s...
but anyway, Nebraska MUST get a big name coach (not one who sucked mucho shit in the NFL) or a current hot rising coach who has built a midmajor program into a consistent winner... or else it'll continue to get shitty athletes and terrible limp quarterbacks from its own state.
No sweet running backs from Texas or Florida are gonna go live in stinkhole ass Nebraska to play for Bill "All I do is bang sweaty hairy fat chicks" Callahan
