The Phoenix Suns have the second oldest roster in the league behind the San Antonio Spurs at the end of the season. With the Suns not even close to winning a title this year and the team not getting any younger I think it's safe to say a trade is adequate.

Let me get straight to the potential trade and explain after.

This is a three team trade that involves Milwaukee and New York.

Suns acquire Michael Redd.

New York acquires Leandro Barbosa and Boris Diaw.

Milwaukee acquires Zach Randolph and swap picks with New York moving them up to No. 6 in the draft instead of No. 8.

New York recently hired Suns former Coach of the Year Mike D'Antoni. The Knicks are seemingly trying to implement D'Antoni's unique up-tempo offense into their franchise, however coach D'Antoni doesn't feel he has the right pieces to work with. When Mike left Phoenix there was talk about him wanting to take Barbosa and Diaw with him. Barbosa stated in a later article that he would welcome a trade. If this trade happened the Knicks would have a very fast lineup in a slow Eastern Conference with a starting lineup of: Nate Robinson, Leandro Barbosa, Jamal Crawford, Boris Diaw, and Eddy Curry. But can Mike D'Antoni make this offensive explosion work with very little defense on the roster?

Milwaukee is rumored to be shopping pure shooter Michael Redd. Actually, Milwaukee is said to be shopping various of their players to move up in the draft. Well, the Bucks get exactly what they wanted, and most likely this wouldn't be the only trade the Bucks pull off over the offseason.

The Suns starting five would consist of: Steve Nash, Michael Redd, Grant Hill, Amare Stoudemire, Shaquille O'Neal. A very strong starting five but with little bench.

I'm hoping the Suns can resign Gordon Giricek as he comes off the bench with energy and defense. Brian Skinner would be a nice backup center if actually used, however I can't see him wanting to come back unless Terry Porter convinces him that his role on the team will be greater than last year. Suns still need a backup point guard and the perfect candidate in my opinion would be Jason Williams who can hit the three ball and dish the ball. I'm hoping Shaq and J-Will ended Miami on a strong connection.

With the draft quickly approaching, I strongly hope the Suns staff have something up their sleeves if not this, something similar.

  1. Brandon,

As a diehard Suns fan myself, I would love to see the Suns pull of a trade and get Redd, but this one has zero chance of going through. The Bucks give up Redd and HAVE to take Zach Randolph (that's not a good thing). Redd and Randolph's salaries are about the same (Redd make a bit more), they are each for 3 more seasons (although Redd's third season is a player option), and all over $15 million a year. I just can't see the Bucks swapping Redd for Randolph and just moving up 2 spots in the draft. There just isn't enough there. The Knicks would do this in a HEARTBEAT... to dump Zach and acquire Barbosa and Diaw. Barbosa is the most valuable of all the players mentioned and won't come cheap.

  2. I have actually heard of a straight up swap between Milwaukee and New York where it would just be Redd for Zach Randolph and they would also swap picks. I just decided to modify the trade a little bit in the Suns favor. Barbosa is a player mentioned on the trading block and from what I've heard he is coming very CHEAP! It a slap in the face in my opinion as I see Barbosa having not reached his full potential.
Check out my other article and let me know what you think about the trade I got there.
And by the way. If you got a myspace join my suns group.
