Florida Gators Football, Tim Tebow
IconSaturday afternoon was a tough one for Gator Nation.

Florida lost to the Georgia Bulldogs 42-30 in Jacksonville. It was only the third time in my 18-year-old life that the Gators had been so unfortunate.

I was reminded of 1997, when Bulldog RB Robert Edwards ran all over UF. Knowshon Moreno filled the bill this weekend.

I talked all week at school about how the 5-3 Gators would roll the 6-2 Bulldogs. It was such a foregone conclusion that even Dawg fans were predicting defeat.

And then the game started.

I knew something was off when Georgia stormed down the field for a Moreno touchdown. In the end, Tim Tebow's Heisman chances washed away with his tears.

SuperTebow couldn't overcome the Bulldog defense—or his own defense, for that matter, which proved to be his Kryptonite.

Saturday marked the third straight awful outing for the Florida D. An unbelievable stat: In October, the Gators scored 89 points while giving up 99 to LSU, Kentucky, and Georgia.

Tebow was sacked six times and rushed 13 times for -15 yards. Nobody's supposed to hold SuperTebow under zero yards rushing.

By the time Moreno scored his third touchdown, I felt like I was watching a bad movie that wouldn't end. The freshman finished with 33 carries for 188 yards and three touchdowns.

When I go back to school on Monday, I'll have to face the music. It'll be hard—but the Dawgs did "stick a hobnailed boot in the Gators' face and break their nose," to quote legendary Bulldogs radio announcer Larry Munson.

This Gator fan will lie low for a while and eat his humble pie—but that doesn't mean I don't still bleed Orange and Blue.

  1. I don't think Tebow's Heisman chances are completely erased. Tebow, as you mentioned, can't do anything about how bad the Gator defesne plays. But the minus 15 yards rushing is due to the 6 sacks given up by the Gator O-line. Tebow still had a good game, but he can't do it himself.

  2. Urban Meyer made one mistake that cost him the game yesterday. In the spring of 2005, he lost the recruiting battle for a kid from NJ named Knowshon Moreno. Moreno's final two choices were Georgia and Florida.

Tebow won't win the Heisman. With a little luck, in two years Moreno will.

  3. Tebow is a good ball player but he could not handle the Ga D. It all goes back to Urbans horrible recruiting. The whole team consists of Tebow and Harvin. The rest of the team is unheard of. The Ga team is a more complete team. Yes we did get beat by SC and we got trampled by TN but it was a team effort. The Gator fans are to much of a coward to admit there defeat. I am willing to bet that the Gator fans will blame there defeat on Tebow's hurt shoulder. Well Ga lost to SC because our team played bad and GA lost to TN because our team played bad not because of one particular players lack of performance. TN and SC came out to play and we did not. Look for Ga to make a good run in the SEC east. Look for Florida to have to wait until next year.

  4. Actually Florida's offense did it's job, it put up 30 points on the board which is pretty good against the "GA D.". The bottom line is Florida's defense is playing horrible. Florida's Defense can not stop ANY TEAM in the fourth quarter. All Florida had to do was make one or two more stops when it was a five point game but they didn't and they couldn't. Florida's offense did a great job even though Kestan Moore had two fumbles and messed up that fourth down conversion- Florida's offense still put up 30 points in a game but sadly Florida's offense wasn't on the field as much as they COULD have been.

  5. Aubrey,
I will admit defeat. UGa played better than we did, and we didn't take care of business when we had the opportunities. This year, all phases of our team are OK, but we have lapses late in games that lead to our demise. Take our defense, for instance. We have talent, but our current defensive personnel are prone to mental lapses. They lack the ability to get other teams off the field. This problem is not new, and it was magnified when we played Ole Miss. The good thing is that only three defensive players will graduate, and we should be better next year. As far as your dominance, I think you are reaching. Tebow was hurt, but we still scored thirty. Our coaching staff made really bad calls late (reverse on fourth and one?!?), but we competed. We dropped balls we had to have and Tebow missed wide open guys when the game was still close, but we still have room to improve. Our offense really was effective for the most part. We just really need to shore up our defense, then give Kestahn Moore stickum and a hug. I wrote a comment on the Fla Times Union website about holes in the Gators team, and Georgia did a good job taking advantage of said holes.

    jonnny,
It would have been nice to have him, but it is what it is. As far as Moreno 4 Heisman, get real. If he was that good, he wouldn't have redshirted. Dude, I like Moreno's game, but you should just enjoy your win. Stop making foolish statements. We've made a lot of RBs look like world beaters this year. Congrats on the win, but get over yourself already.

  7. These are some good points. As a Bulldog fan, I'm proud that we were able to beat the Gators and hope the Dawgs will continue to improve and make this series more interested and closer for years to come. I have tons of respect for Florida and all that they have accomplished. I pull SEC teams when they play anyone outside the conference.
