Electrifying. That is the word most used to describe Marlon Lucky.
But is he exciting or talented enough to win the Heisman Trophy this year? In fact, there are many reasons why he should and why he shouldn't win the Heisman.
When Marlon Lucky arrived in Lincoln, he was a highly-regarded running back. He chose Nebraska over the likes of USC, Washington, LSU, and Oregon. He was considered the best running back to come to Nebraska since Lawrence Phillips (without the off-field issues).
You could say his career at Nebraska has been disappointing, but the 2008-09 season could really change that opinion. He is primed and ready with a veteran offensive line and an exciting quarterback in Joe Ganz.

Can that success translate into a Heisman Trophy?
Some of the reasons people think Lucky has had a disappointing career thus far include his inconsistency and tendency to disappear in big games.
In opening game of the 2007 season, he had 233 rushing yards. Unfortunately, in the USC vs. Nebraska game he had a mere 33 yards. He would go on to break the 100-yard mark only twice in the next five games.
There are many reasons to believe that Lucky will break out next year and win the Heisman. One reason is that he returns with veteran linemen to clear a path for him.
Another of the reasons he is so hard to stop when he gets rolling is that he can catch the ball out of the backfield and rocket down the sidelines. He showed that in the Kansas game in 2007 when he caught a swing pass and flew down the sideline.
He is the prototypical NFL running back. NFL scouts have said that he is the best prospect in the Big 12 this year.
I think if Marlon can put a lot of effort into it, he can win the Heisman. It is all up to him though. He needs to be more consistent to be a Heisman hopeful.

the crazy part is he was ready to hang up the cleats just about a year ago...I am so happy that Marlon decided to stick with football and he is ready for a huge year

I think Marlons a special player and will possibly make an impact in the NFL, but theres not a chance in the world that he wins the Heisman. He is incapable of putting up Heisman numbers...theres no one in the world that will convince me he could rush for over 1,800 yards or 30 TDs, the type of numbers you need to win the Heisman (at a MINIMUM).

i think hes capable of putting up big numbers..the bigger question is will nebraska be good enough to justify him being a candidate

1. Joe Ganz is not exciting. And 2 there is a reason we all think his career at Nebraska so far is disappointing is because it is. When he went to Nebraska they were not the floormat they are now, they had a good line., they were respectable and he had all the tools to be successful. He will not win the Heisman, I give it to him that he is versatile, but there is no chance he can even compete for the Heisman, he isn't even the best running back in the big 12 (Demarco Murray, Mike Goodson-Javorskie Lane, etc.)

Joe Ganz made plenty of things happen when he got the chance. I don't want to repeat the stat that every college football magazine is running about his large numbers put up in only three games. He is also very mobile.
What does a guy have to do to be exciting?

He did make some plays. The Kansas State game was making that very evident, but Ganz just throws it, like a Favre type heaving it. Aside from just THAT K-State game, the other games he started he barely completed half of his passes. And plus, dont you think if he does even OK this year, it will lower Lucky's productivity, which is what this article is about...?
There is different types of exciting to different fans, I respect that you think he is exciting. But I guess its different for me than you.

I agree that it is highly...HIGHLY doubtful...but there is a tiny...TINY chance....and I do believe he is the best back returning in the Big 12 this year. jmo
