Lisa Leslie was the first woman to dunk in the WNBA, and she did it on July 30, 2002.
It took six years for another woman to do it, and that was Candace Parker.
Parker already had a handful of dunks in her college playing days, so it was only a matter of time before she did it as a pro.
She did it first on June 22, 2008, against the Indiana Fever.
And it didn't take her six years to do it again. Instead, she did it the very next game, against the Seattle Storm.
And I can guar-an-tee you that several thousand more fans are going to tune in to the next Sparks' game to see if she'll make it three in a row.
(At least they would tune in, if the game was televised!)
Imagine that. The Los Angeles Sparks, in one of the biggest media markets in the US, is not broadcast on TV. I don't think that's the WNBA's fault, but it's something they need to address...and if they show up on TV next year, I do believe you can credit that to Candace Parker.
What is the WNBA's fault is the fact that you can't watch it on the WNBA's own website, which is going to be showing the Connecticut Sun vs. the Shock tonight.
Anyway...Candace Parker is not the only woman who will be dunking in the WNBA in years to come. A soon-to-be college student at Baylor, Britney Griner, will soon be powering them down, in traffic under the basket.

I was unable to find a copyright free photo of Candace Parker, which is why I chose a silhouette that I knew wasnt under copyright. Why it has text in the background I do not know...
