NEW YORK - APRIL 16: Xavier Nady #22 of the New York Yankees looks on from the dugout during the opening day game against the Cleveland Indians during opening day at the new Yankee Stadium on April 16, 2009 in the Bronx borough of New York City.         Xavier Nady and the Chicago Cubs reached agreement on a one year deal worth 3.3 million, with a possible 2 million extra in incentives for games played according to SI.com's Jon Heyman. Given the circumstances of the physical, with Xavier Nady coming off his second tommy-john surgery, the deal is far from set.

31 year old Xavier Nady will platoon with Fukodome, and give Soriano in left a rest from time to time, and will also back up Derek Lee at first base. Here is Nady's career line .280/.335/.458/.792. His line versus left handed pitching is .308/.383/.471/.854. Even if Nady passes his physical I would still be worried about his arm. Besides the worries about his arm everything else indicate(if he stays healthy) that he will fill the position nicely and if Lee or Soriano were to go down, we would still have a solid bat in the line up if he reaches his career averages.
