2010 Olympic Men's Hockey: Everything's Going to be Alright!

Just like the poor man who ingested the dreaded 'Buckley Mixture' cough medicine, Team Canada had their own bitter mixture to swallow after being upset by the upstart Americans.

We as Canadians take great pride in icing the best hockey players on the planet earth. When these particular players combine into what is known as "Team Canada", we expect greatness, and rightly so. When you have players such as: Crosby, Brodeur, Iginla, Nash, Weber, Pronger, Keith and the list goes on and on; gold should be the only thing on their collective minds.

Which brings me to their lackluster effort against the Swiss and the many mental break downs throughout that particular game. Pronger looking completely lost in his own end, Boyle not fairing much better. Poor gap control between the defence and forwards leading to many neutral zone turnovers, but we managed to pull out the win, albeit in shootout fashion. That was the proverbial 'kick in the gut', to Team Canada's pride.

You'd think they remedy these mistakes, or at the very least, limit them against a much more skilled American squad. America used their overall youth and speed to their advantage throughout the game. Canada continued to make the very same mistakes that haunted them in the Switzerland game. Brodeur's uncharacteristic stick handling gaffs, had me shocked, as he is widely known as one of the best stick handling goalies in the league. Pronger continued to look like a cheap hooker, as he was nickle and dimed throughout the entire affair. Miller was certainly the main factor, as he pulled off his best brick wall impersonation.

Here we stand, with a game against the Germans, on Tuesday. Our pride in our back pockets, heads bowing down in perpetual shame, having to go to work in a ornery mood. Remember this; the road less travelled, may be the road with all the potholes, but we have the skill to drive around those and learn from our past transgressions.
