Torrell Troup put on quite a show at Monday's portion of the NFL Combine, tying for third among all defensive linemen in reps on the bench press by lifting 225 pounds 34 times. His total was more than fellow defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh (Nebraska) and Gerald McCoy (Oklahoma), who could be the first two players chosen in the draft.
"I really think I moved well through all of the drills and I'm just hopeful that a lot of the people there took note of me," Troup told reporters.
Dozens of scouts took notice of Troup all last season as he helped command offenses all over the country. UCF's defense ranked fourth in the nation against the run and led C-USA in almost every category. Troup had 35 tackles, five stops for a loss, two sacks, four pass breakups and three quarterback hurries.
Troup went through several informal interviews at the combine and met specifically with the coaches from the Bills, Steelers and Panthers for more formal sessions.
Up next for the defensive lineman is the Bommarito Performance Systems camp in Aventura, Florida. Troup will train there for UCF's Pro Day on March 25. And he already has plans to be on UCF's campus with friends and family for the draft on April 22.
Troup says he's extremely happy with everything that's gone on so far, and is expected to draft as high as the third round. For now, he'll work hard to ensure that Pro Day is just as successful as his time at the combine.
