2008 saw Jim Gannon march Stockport County all the way to Wembley in the Play-Off finals again Rochdale in League Two.

This was one of Stockport's finest moments of late.

April 2009 saw the club go into administration.

Since then the club has seemed to go into decline. With a policy of "sell before you buy," things are not the brightest at Edgeley Park and for Gary Ablett and his side, it is demoralising with all the hype surrounding a supposed take over, then for it to be squashed by the Football League.

The Melrose Consortium, headed by ex-Manchester City player Jim Melrose, is a team of local businessmen wanting to take the reins at Stockport.

A recent announcement published on told of how yet again the football club has been rejected in its take over by Jim Melrose and his team.

This is showing times at the moment in football. With the demise of Portsmouth of recent, Cardiff and Notts County are also in financial struggle. Could another team follow Chester City into liquidation and become extinct?
