Syracuse Basketball, Syracuse Football

IconLast night, cheers echoed throughout Syracuse University's Carrier Dome, cheers that were meant for one player alone: Jonny Flynn.

Although the 6-foot, 186-pound freshman scored only five points against Saint Joseph's, it was his only field goal of the evening that won the game for the Orange.

With the game tied at 68 with 5.3 seconds to go, Flynn sunk a three-point shot that sent fans into a state of frenzied excitement.

Despite his low point total, Flynn contributed greatly to the game, finishing with six assists (several to his old high school buddy Paul Harris).

Flynn's clutch performance followed a record-breaking game Monday night, in which he scored 28 points against Siena, shattering Carmelo Anthony's 2002 record for most points scored by a rookie in his debut with the Orange.

As one of the top recruits in the nation, Flynn has lived up to the hype surrounding him...so far.

But does he have what it takes to be the next Melo, and lead Syracuse to a national championship win?

Ask any Orange fan and they will most likely say yes—maybe because they can't bear the thought of missing the NCAA tournament another year, or maybe because they actually believe Flynn is that good.

Whatever the reason, one thing's for sure: All eyes will be on Flynn as the Orange continue their quest for national success.

  1. What's it look like? Are the Orange in position to go deep in the bracket this year?

    1. I'm going to say yes - partially because it's my last year at SU and I desperately want a great season, but they've also been looking pretty good. They definitely need to work on defense/turnovers and I'm anxious to see what they've got when they start playing Big East teams...

  2. I really think Donte Green is your next 'Melo, but Johnny Flynn can't hurt and is really good.

I just think Greene's dominance has been remarkable.

Either way, I don't look forward to playing the 'cuse in hoops this year, even if Huggins has arrived.

How easy are Syracuse tickets to get? I'm only a couple of hours away and was thinking of coming down for a game...

    1. Not quite sure about tickets... I have student season tickets but I know my family is coming for the Nova game in January and tickets sold pretty quickly. Check athletics.syr.edu but there are always tons of scalpers outside, just not sure how much you're willing to pay...

  3. Crap. just checked the schedule, the Mountaineers don't come to Syracuse this year! Thats's crazy!

  4. do you think the Orange is going to make it out of the NIT and back into the tourney again? that was depressing last year. hope all goes well in the season!

    1. I desperately hope so... I don't think I can handle them not making it my senior year! They're not looking quite as terrible as I thought they would after Devendorf's injury though, so I definitely have hope!
