Waiting Out The Rain

A weekend in Texas is a weekend in the rain.

So what do race fans do when they are waiting for the rain to stop?  Most of us will watch the rain delay programming provided by the network.  We must give Kudos to ESPN during Saturday’s rain delay, they had interviews all lined up including one with Dale Earnhardt Jr.

But when Sunday rolls around and the rain is still coming down, what’s a fan to do?

“I put the TV on mute and sat on my couch and watched a movie on my laptop,” said Sharon from Pennsylvania.  “One movie after another.”

A lot of NASCAR fans organize parties and gatherings on Race Day and I bet you can guess what ends up happening there as the party goes on even without the racing.  “We all get pretty drunk,” Leah, from Arizona told me.

“When the races are washed out what else is there to do?”

Texas has had little rain lately and I wonder if other areas that are having a drought situation will start inviting NASCAR to their town.

Most of the fans I have talked to cannot stand it when the networks play last years race while they are waiting out a rain delay.  Most fans who are devoted enough to be sitting around waiting for the rain to stop, already remember what happened in last years race.

Twitter seems to be a great place to hang out during rain delays.  A bunch of people complaining about the rain, making jokes about the rain and listening to reporters at the track tell them how light or hard it is raining.

Then there are those of us who grab a typewriter and write during the rain delays.  Wait! A typewriter, what is that?  Wow, it’s been a long time since any of us have used typewriters, we grab our laptops and work on stories during the rain delay.

This weekend race fans are getting whacked with a double days of rain.  Both races were a wash this weekend causing everyone to scramble and find a way of getting out of work or school Monday so we can watch the race.

Kelly Crandall, B/R writer and frequent Twitter(er) says: “I'm so glad I picked the college that doesn't hold classes on Monday's.  And no I didn't do that with Nascar in mind ;)”

I couldn’t agree with you more Kelly, I am so glad I picked and on-line school.  I can attend my classes when it’s convenient for me and class is not convenient for me when the races are moved over to Monday.

The good news is that the weather in Texas looks a lot more promising tomorrow.

So race fans, have a little patience and be a little bit clever with your Monday Schedule and you will get to see some Nascar Racing!
