In recent weeks I have come across various arguments on the Internet over whether Stone Cold Steve Austin or Hulk Hogan is the biggest wrestling star ever. In my opinion Austin is the biggest wrestling star ever, but I also believe that if The Rock wrestled for 3 or 4 more years he would be the biggest star of all time, not behind Austin and Hogan. As we all know when most people(non wrestling fans or people that stopped watching) hear the word "wrestling" they think of Hulk Hogan. Hulk Hogan did help bring the WWE and wrestling in general to mainstream popularity. Hogan was on t-shirts, posters, cartoons, pin ball machines, etc. He was the name and face of wrestling. Hogan sold out arenas and gave every little kid a hero back in the 80's. He held the WWE Championship for 4 years, something that hasn't been done since. He was so overly popular that people didn't even complain about his extremely long title reign. His slamming of Andre the Giant is called by people as the most important moment in WWE history and the reason why WM is became as big as it is. His match with Andre also drew over 90,000 fans, another feat that hasn't been done since in the WWE. While in WCW Hogan helped WCW beat the WWE for 84 straight weeks in the ratings with the NWO; a group called one of the best ever. Hogan sold as the main face of a company and as it's main heel.

Stone Cold Steve Austin. The name itself says "badass". Austin is the guy that brought the WWE back on top in the ratings war with his do what I want when I want persona. Austin along with DX became crowd favorites as cursing rebels that did whatever it took to piss the boss off. Around the time Austin became popular, he was a rarity in wrestling. He was a guy that acted like a heel but was cheered instead, an anti hero. Austin's promo at KOR 96 set off the most merchandised item in wrestling history; Austin 3:16. It was on shirts, caps, posters, foam fingers, cups, dvd's, etc. Austin received pops like no other, people chanted "Austin" whenever the boss was being his usual candy ass self hoping that Austin would come down and stomp a mudhole in his ass. Austin's feud with Vince McMahon is the greatest feud of all time for the sole reason that it made Austin even more popular and the WWE was at it's peak during this time. Even though Austin was injured during this entire time, he still put on great performances and was one of the guys that carried the WWE to the top. His heel turn in 2001 was the most shocking and the fans still went crazy at WM 17 when he pinned The Rock for the title. Even though it wasn't the same after he turned face again in 2002, Austin is still recognized to this day and his What? chant is still used in wrestling arenas around the world.

In your opinion, who is the bigger star Austin or Hogan?
