Well, where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire…or so the saying goes, right?

We’ve been hearing little tidbits about the possibility of “enigmatic” Russian winger Nikolai Zherdev, who spent this season playing with Atlant of the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia, returning to the NHL next season , specifically with our beloved New York Rangers. Today, there is yet another new tidbit.

Genadi Boguslavsky, a Montreal-based reporter for the Russian newspaper/website Sovetsky Sport , posted the following on his twitter earlier today:

Rangers start to talk with Nikolai Zherdev to make his possible return to NHL

Obviously, we won’t know anything for sure until the free agent season opens up in July, but these rumors keep popping up.

For those of us that think bringing Zherdev back to Broadway could be a smart decision (like yours truly, for one), these rumors are clearly welcomed.

We’ll have more updates on the Nikolai Zherdev situation when they become available.
