Why I Would Like The WWE To Include a French Kiss In THIS Rated R Era

Ever since Edge made his triumphant return at the Royal Rumble, many figured (albeit with disappointment) that the R in his “Rated R” moniker, would yield a character who, would be less reprehensible, and more reputable this time around.

However, unlike those who couldn't wait for his inevitable turn back to the dark side, I was looking forward to, and enjoying his brief transformation from, “The Ultimate Opportunist” to the opportunistic hero.

Nevertheless, the majority got their way, which leaves this fan interested as to how the Rated R revival will be portrayed in PG.  One question that has been on my mind as of late is if the WWE will continue his “Easy Bein' Sleazy” ways, by partnering Edge with an appropriate "Femme Fatale".

If so, then who?

Right away, I had a Diva in mind and upon further examination of the WWE Women's division, my original name remained unchanged, Maryse.

Pourquoi, you ask?

Let me elaborate as to why I believe a partnership between the sex celebration savant, and the “The Sexiest of Sexy” simply makes sense.

The initial reason that I believe made me want to put these two together right away, was the fact that both of these performers are simply sublime at being slimes.  Edge has not only earned every disparaging designation he's received, he's done it in a way that has made him both illustrious and nefarious, all at the same time.

As for Maryse, what can I say, except that she's the shining star in a Divas division that the WWE has otherwise turned into a black hole.  Her abject actions and subsequent French or English promos have a certain, "je ne sais quoi" quality that makes me appreciate the “French Canadian Beauty”.

Their individual greatness gives me reason to believe, they would make the perfect contemptuous couple.  Being an enthralled Edgehead who has experienced the entire Rated R Era, I would have to say that the partnering of Edge and Lita, far surpassed the vexing Vicky and Edge affair.

I think that Maryse has the ability and the range to replicate some of that evil “sex kitten” persona that Lita worked to perfection.  Having said that, I think with Maryse's current demeanour, there would be an intriguing and different element with this relationship.

Obviously, the WWE's current PG rating means we will see nothing like the lewd interactions between Edge and Lita.  Nevertheless, my feeling is that by partnering  two of the top egocentric heels in the business, we will be getting a relationship dynamic where both will be out to prove how lucky the other one is.

Let me explain.

With Edge and Lita, Lita was essentially made to portray the....well, I guess the most polite word I can come up with is tramp.  However, with an Edge and Maryse duet, you have both characters who have egos the size of their home and native land (500 points to all the Non-Canucks who pick up on the reference) with neither one being totally submissive.

Partner that, with the fact that both characters have a capricious crazy side that gets out from time to time, and this potential partnership just keeps getting better.

This to me would make their getting together extremely entertaining, their ensuing  interactions where one is questioning the others commitment, captivating, and the inevitable breakup, breathtaking.

Of course, there is one small stumbling block that I came across when I conjured up this partnership.  Being the knowledgeable Edgehead that I claim to be, I would be remiss if I didn't mention a certain promo that Edge cut in Montreal awhile ago (seen here).

I was able to appreciate the excellence of that promo, excellence that I don't think was enjoyed by anyone with Quebecois heritage.

No matter, I'm sure the “Master Psychologist” can get Maryse to see that it's water under the bridge and that he's a changed man.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I realize that the WWE could just do what they usually do and be completely oblivious to their previous storylines.  I mean, if I'm not mistaken, haven't they been adverting house shows where Jericho and Edge are a tag team again?

If in WWE's eyes, that's already water under the bridge, then Edge's 2006 promo is under the bridge, through the St. Lawrence, already flowing in the Atlantic.

Phew, that was a close one.  OK now it's up to you readers, do you think it would be entertaining to see Edge and Maryse as a couple, or not.  Comments welcome.
