USA-England Tie:Robert Green to Be Charged With Treason

RUSTENBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - JUNE 12: Robert Green of England misjudges the ball and lets in a goal during the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Group C match between England and USA at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on June 12, 2010 in Rustenburg, South Africa. (Photo by Martin Rose/Getty Images)

The recent installment of the USA-England rivalry produces an exhilarating 1-1 tie. Four and a half minutes into the game, Steven Gerrard slipped behind the American defense, and put a shot by Tim Howard. However, England’s new goaltender, Robert Green, had a case of butterfingers when he tried to deal with Clint Dempsey’s shot in the 39th minute.

The rest of the match was just as thrilling. Jozy Altidore broke in on goal, shot, but had it blocked by Green. Tim Howard had to make save after save after save after England tried time after time to put another goal in the books.

This truly was a game for the ages. This game was filled with excitement and suspense. It may finally put real football on the map in the United States of America.

However, this puts the USA in a difficult position should Slovenia or Algeria win tomorrow. If one of those teams were to win tomorrow, then this will put the USA in a fight with England for a spot in the round of 16. And, to be frank, it will be extremely difficult for the United States of America to advance if this happens.
