As I pointed out in a column I wrote yesterday, the 2007 Heisman Trophy belongs in the hands of one of the nation's many great quarterbacks. A field general that seems to be generating a lot of gossip lately in the Heisman talks is none other than Hawaii's Colt Brennan, the 6'3" sandy blonde out of Laguna Beach. When wrapping your head around Colt's individual stats and team record, one may get the impression that Brennan is a serious Heisman contender. After all: while other quarterbacks have posted equally dazzling numbers, only Brennan has led his team to an undefeated record. Right?
Wrong.
Cold Brennan should not be considered for the Heisman trophy—period.
Let's start with his numbers.
Statistically speaking, Colt Brennan is one of the best passers in the country. His 69.9% completion percentage is quite impressive. His 33 touchdowns and 3732 passing yards are stunning. And his quarterback rating of 163.4 is downright extraordinary.
But those numbers are nothing compared to the stats he put up last year.
Colt's quarterback rating last season was an astonishing 185.96. He threw for 5549 total yards, with a 72.6% completion rate and 58 touchdowns. Despite his aggressive play, he only threw 12 picks throughout the season.
Yes, you read that right: 58 friggin' touchdowns. Colt posted Superhuman numbers in 06' that can only be explained by raw talent and a weak schedule.
The point I want to stress is this: Colt threw 25 more touchdowns last year than he has through 11 games this year, and two fewer interceptions. He has been great this season—but was even better last season.
If he was going to get the Heisman, 2006 was the time. But he only finished sixth in voting.
Now I know what you're thinking: individual statistics don't tell the whole story.
Very true.
Indeed, there's another stat that is perhaps more impressive than Brennan's individual feats this season. And that, of course, is the Hawaii Warriors' 11-0 record.
Perhaps this is where the thinking behind considering Brennan for the Heisman lies. While Colt had a great season in 06', his performance this year was nothing short of magical—as shown by Hawaii's undefeated record.
But a closer look reveals that the two seasons weren't as different as one would imagine.
In both seasons, the Warriors lined up week after week against awful competition. When all is said and done, the Warriors will have played eleven non-elite opponents this year—the exact same amount as last year.
The only ranked team the Warriors played both last season and this season was Boise State. In 2006, the Warriors lost to the Buster Broncos early in the season by seven points. Last weekend, the Warriors were 12-point victors.
As I think you all know, last season's Boise State team turned out to be something quite special. All things considered, a narrow loss to the 2006 boys of Boise State isn't anything to be ashamed of.
In both cases, the games were close. But this year, the Warriors happened to sneak out a win—which really doesn't come as a surprise considering that last year's Boise State team turned out to be stronger than this year's.
The Warriors lost two other games in 06'. On opening day of the season, they went down to the Crimson Tide 25-17. And on the second to last week of the season, Oregon State squeaked a 35-32 victory passed the Warriors.
In total, the Warriors lost their three games in 2006 by a combined 18 points. Granted, a loss is a loss is a loss—but it's not Hawaii ever got blown out of the water.
Let's now turn our eyes towards the Warriors' wins within the WAC in each season.
In 2006, the Warriors stomped Louisana Tech into the ground 61-17. This season, they beat Tech by a single point.
The Warriors taught San Jose State a lesson in pain last year, demolishing the Spartans 54-17. In 2007, they pulled out a competitive 42-35 victory.
Same story with Fresno State—an easy 68-37 victory in 2006 was slimmed down to a 37-30 win in 2007. Ditto with Utah State—63-10 compared with 52-37.
All in all, the Warriors scored 242 more points than their conference opponents in 2006.
That total has been reduced this season to 109, with one game left to play.
So: what does all of this mean?
It means that the Warriors really aren't much better this year than they were last year. In point of fact, last year's team may very well have been the more impressive squad.
Thus—if Colt Brennan finished sixth in Heisman voting last year, after putting up perhaps the best numbers of any quarterback in college football history, and last year's Warriors team was just as good—if not better—than this year's team, how can you justify calling Brennan a Heisman contender in 2007?
There's only one logical way I can think of. And that would be if last year's other candidates were more impressive than this year's candidates.
Let's go through the 2006 list of candidates: Troy Smith, Darren McFadden, Brady Quinn, Steve Slaton, Mike Hart
Now compare those guys to this season's candidates: Tim Tebow, Darren McFadden, Chase Daniel, Pat White, Todd Reesing.
Seems pretty even, huh?
No one should hesitate to admire Brennan and the Hawaii Warriors for their excellent season. But saying Brennan's name in the same sentence as "Heisman Trophy" is truly unfair to those candidates who are actually deserving of the honor.

Freund, you can write all you want about why Colt Brennan doesn't deserve the Heisman this year while you drink your beer and throw your temper tantrums about the level of WAC players...you really should consider staying there and not coming out of your hole!
Get real, weirdo!

I'm so tired of hearing about this weak schedule CRAP! When Hawaii was a weak team (years ago) All the BCS teams were lining up to play them. They were telling their boosters to take a vacation to Hawaii and watch us stomp them into the ground. Oklahoma, Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, you name them, they ALL CAME! Since the June Jones era, they started a new tradition. bailing out of their contracts like rats on a sinking ship! Texas bailed, michigan state paid $250,000.00 to chicken out. Purdue's coach last year cried about playing Hawaii (we beat them) One of your weak teams we beat last year! Oh, let's not forget Michigan that chose Appalachin state instead of UH to play this year. Well, we all know what happened to mighty Michigan. The big schools love to run up the scores to prove how great they are against "weak" competition. They show their true colors when they back out of their contracts and opt for "easy opponents." We maybe a smaller School, with a smaller budget than the "BCS schools" But when it comes down to heart, we got them beat by a mile!!!

huh? since when does a quarterback of brennan's caliber and numbers not deserve to be mentioned as a contender.... he should have taken it last year... by shear numbers, the best in the country. That didn't happen and it probably won't this year either. That doesn't mean that he is not worthy... what is unworthy is your lowly opinion of him.
The man is great, he'll prove that on Sundays after his college career is over. His passing up on an early NFL career for the money was enough to say that he is a good man. He has helped his team to an undefeated season, and helped to captain them to an undefeated record to date.
Stop dissing him and his team. We've heard it all.. over rated, under acheivers, weak schedule, won games by close scores, shouldn't have been in those close games to begin with and the list goes on. One of the most over hated schools from the a mid major college, from the middle of the Pacific.
The bottom line here is that they are still undefeated, that is all that matters for us. Maybe one day when you watch him really play without your blinders on, you'll come to appreciate his talent. Until then when you walk the walk learn to talk the talk.

You couldn't be more wrong... Your main point is "he wasn't as good as he was last year." Am I the only one who finds that ridiculous? Nobody in the history of college football had a year statistically like he had last year. (BTW-How can you say his schedule last year was weak?) Yes, he has less TDs and more INTs against a weaker schedule but he did play banged up for much of the year and did what so many others couldn't. He won the game! Even when field conditions resembled that Pittsburg/Miami game last night, (See San Jose State) he found a way to win the game.
A few more points...
1. Don't add margin of victory into your argument. Do I need to get Herm Edwards? (YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!)
2. Hawaii didn't squeak by Boise, they dominated that game. They could have scored an unnecessary TD towards the end but didn't because they don't care about margin of victory. (Would have given them a 20 point lead...
3. If Hawaii wins on Saturday, he would have successfully led his team to a BCS bowl game. That pretty much trumps your entire argument...

If you're going to downplay his 2007 stats then you should mention that Brennan didn't play in two games except for taking 2 snaps at Nevada.
I'm not necessarily arguing that Brennan does deserve the Heisman (McFadden has some great #s, Tebow can wait till next year), but your arguments are flawed. From what I recall about the rules of the game, the number of points scored by the opponent has MUCH more to do with the team's defense than the quarterback.
Funny how you didn't mention how many times Brennan threw a pick-6 this year. Your margin of victory argument has no grounds for this discussion.
Yes, weak schedule = undefeated, but that doesn't at all mean that he should be dropped completely from the Heisman discussion.
Oh, and by the way: You should proof-read your articles before posting them on BleacherReport, else stick to writing for your high school newspaper.
That was a pretty disturbing article with facts twisted. But again, you must be a person who believes that only the bcs conferences deserve anything. How can you watch brennan play against boise and then have guts to say he's not even worthy of being mentioned w/ heisman in the same sentance? Write about something that you actually have facts for or get a life.

I think Tebow should win the Heisman. He has shown much of the passing skill needed to be a quality QB in the NCAA (NFL quality talent should not be a factor for the Heisman) and has displayed the athleticism of a solid RB. He's shown leadership beyond his sophomore year (class should not be a factor, either). And his team is still in the running for a BCS bowl.
Colt turned down millions of dollars to lead Hawaii to an undefeated season. Everything else (stats, awards, draft status, etc.) was secondary at best. So far, he's helped the program acheive that goal. That's a class act. Colt won't win ol' stiff arm but he should at least be given the respect that he has earned. He should be invited to New York for the ceremony. That alone would validate his sacrifice.

- "Hawaii didn't squeak by Boise, they dominated that game."
Apparently the facts aren't that important to the article writer:
- "Let's now turn our eyes towards the Warriors' wins within the WAC in each season."
Lets.
- "In 2006, the Warriors stomped Louisana Tech into the ground 61-17. This season, they beat Tech by a single point."
In 2006, La Tech was a home game. This year, it was a road game. In fact, it was the first of two consecutive road games that were played with Hawaii staying on the mainland to prevent multiple jetlag. Does going on the road, and having to travel that long, *and* adjust to the timezone matter? Ask UNLV: after playing La Tech, and having significant time to acclimate, they next played UNLV, winning 49-14.
- "The Warriors taught San Jose State a lesson in pain last year, demolishing the Spartans 54-17. In 2007, they pulled out a competitive 42-35 victory."
In 2006, San Jose State was a home game, again. In 2007, it was a road game. Again. Played in weather conditions best described as "challenging" and in field conditions better described as "liquified."
- "Same story with Fresno State an easy 68-37 victory in 2006 was slimmed down to a 37-30 win in 2007."
This time, 2006 this was a road game, and 2007 this was a home game. Of course, this would be the game where Colt Brennan was knocked completely out of the game with a concussion, at a point in the game where the score was 37-23. If he had not been knocked out, its entirely likely that the winning margin would have been higher: coach Jones would have very likely kept Brennan in for the entire game to keep the pressure on an otherwise very dangerous Fresno team (in my opinion, and probably in the minds of the Hawaii coaching staff, Fresno isn't beaten until the clock expires, they board the bus, and disappear out of the parking lot; until then, we keep scoring points just to make sure).
- "Ditto with Utah State 63-10 compared with 52-37"
Also a home game this season, while a road game last season. However, Colt Brennan sat out the fourth quarter: the score at the start of the fourth quarter: 52-27. And seriously, comparing a 63-10 blowout to a 52-27 blowout that becomes a 52-37 lesser blowout when Hawaii starts to sit players, and using it as proof of a decline in performance? Sorry: the errors above are carelessly poor research. This one is just idiotic.
Does Colt's performance this year warrant the Heisman? I don't honestly know: I think his performance has been fantastic where it counts most for a quarterback: leading his team to win under all conditions, good and bad. But he's not up against slackers, and I don't think players like Tim Tebow are any less deserving based on what I've seen. But to start *inventing* ways to diss Colt's performance this season, and not especially intelligent ways at that, strongly suggests that Colt is highly under-rated. He would have to be, given the existence of the completely irrational dislike displayed against him by some. Subtract that away, and who knows where he'd be now.
- "But saying Brennan's name in the same sentence as "Heisman Trophy" is truly unfair to those candidates who are actually deserving of the honor."
Talk about unfair: how many people, do you think, that do not watch or closely follow Hawai'i's games, think analyses like the above are actually representative of Hawaii and Colt Brennan's performance this year. And how much of an unfair disservice do you suppose that amounts to?

"In 2006, San Jose State was a home game, again. In 2007, it was a road game. Again. Played in weather conditions best described as "challenging" and in field conditions better described as "liquified."
-Teams in Hawaii and San Jose don't often have to play in conditions best described as "challenging. Try playing in the snow! Make all the excuses you want here...
"Does going on the road, and having to travel that long, *and* adjust to the timezone matter?"
-WAAAH WAAAH WAAAH WAAAH WAAAH WAAH. So they play in Hawaii, and have to travel what, every game they play on the road gives them an automatic 30 point cushion?
"Talk about unfair: how many people, do you think, that do not watch or closely follow Hawai'i's games, think analyses like the above are actually representative of Hawaii and Colt Brennan's performance this year. And how much of an unfair disservice do you suppose that amounts to?"
-Look, LAST YEAR, when the kid put up ungodly like numbers, it was a fair thing to do to include him in the Heisman race. THIS YEAR, he's put up similar numbers to the nation's other QBs but unlike them has not played any decent competition. Seems totally fair to me.
Colt Brennan's been great this year, but he doesn't deserve the Heisman.

"Tebow can wait till next year"
This is the most irresponsible statement ever. What a waste of one of the most impressive performances in college football history. The Heisman award comittee is the one that loses out by not associating itself with such an incredible performance.

Do you have a college degree? If that's the "only logical way" you can understand that scenario, you really need to take a course in logic. I'm sure there's a community college near you that will let you in.
from 8 months ago
I do have a college degree. And so does Colt. Look at what he did with his college education:
"Brennan originally joined the University of Colorado football team in 2003 as a walk-on. He spent the year as a redshirt.
On January 28, 2004, Brennan entered the dorm room of a University of Colorado coed uninvited and, according to the coed "exposed himself and fondled her."[2] Brennan, who was intoxicated at the time of the incident, was arrested and eventually pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and trespassing, but a guilty verdict for unlawful sexual contact was vacated by the court for lack of evidence. [1] After the incident, which was caught up in the middle of the time when CU was flooded with other accusations of sex crimes and revelations of wild recruiting parties involving Colorado football players, Brennan was almost immediately kicked off the team.[3]"

He deserved it, and should have won it last year. But that's a different story for a different time.
If he had that year this year, then he would win it. Even though I've been biased towards him in a good way, even I cannot give him the nod this year. Some great points. People need to realize what type of year the guy had last year though. System or not, weak schedule or not. He put up impressive numbers(NOT jut the touchdowns and yards), and that was a real special year.
from 8 months ago
He put up numbers last year the likes of which the world has never seen, I agree. And people should remember that.
But in a year that clearly doesn't compare, why does everyone want him in the talks? Two wrongs don't make a right!

Forgetting that Colt didn't play two of the 12 games this year seems to be a major gaffe on your part.

2006 weak schedule? Let's see -- Hawaii play Alabama, Purdue, Boise State, Oregon State, and Arizona State. The only reason Colts stats are done is that 1) he got hurt, and 2) Hawaii plays one less game this year (because all of the BCS schools are afraid to play Hawaii).

tim tebow has earned the heisman if they give it to brennan that would be a mistake.

Correction: The Warriors didn't "sneak out" a win against Boise St this year - they were 6 inches from running the score to 46-27 but took the honorable knee instead. Colt had almost 500 yards passing and threw 5 touchdowns. Impressive enough?
To says the San Jose State game was "competitive" is a complete understatement. Brennan and the Warriors came from 14 points behind with 4 minutes left and took it to the overtime win. That was some of the gutsiest football I have ever seen.
Even though he hasn't put up obscene numbers like he did last year, his performance this year is still stellar. He is one of the best college QBs today, and the Warriors are one of the best teams today because of him. He may not win the Heisman, but at least he deserves to be invited to New York.

Every article I read from "The Bleacher Report" reminds me of the sports section of my high school newspaper, all of 7 years ago. I don't understand how you can formulate your opinion on Colt Brennan based on these facts. Not even West Virginia, Missouri, UGA, VT, or Ohio State would blow out every single team they played if they played in the WAC. A few games would be close, ESPECIALLY the away games. "Lesser" teams often surprise better teams because they have a chance to show how competitive they can be at times against bigger teams. Look at App. State AT Michigan. So what is Hawai'i only beat La. Tech by a point? Last time I checked, they were 11-0, and no other team in the country can say that, regardless of conference. Their QB, Mr. Brennan, is averaging something sick like 5 TDs a game. If they win big next week against Washington, I don't understand why he DOESN'T win the Heisman in this year of weak (- McFadden) contenders. Of course, the panel of high school sports writers may not agree.

Horseshit article. Colt Brennan can't help who he plays and the fact that he goes out and takes care of business day in and day out means he deserves to be considered. Do I think he should win the Heisman? No. Do I think he should be invited to New York? Hell yes. I'm so sick of people downplaying teams like Hawai'i. They can't do anything about the teams they play and 11-0 is impressive no matter what conference you're in. I can't wait for Hawai'i to shake things up in the Sugar bowl this year.
Factor in Hawaii's measly $50,000 recruiting budget plus the meager net income the football program takes in (see URL), an unbiased person can only conclude that June Jones has put together the best bang-for-your-buck football team and Colt Brennan is responsible for a lot of this.

What a useless stupid article. If there was a geographical discrimination, you'd be up on charges. 11 wins and no losses idiot. Come from behind wins, tough as nails in the clutch, perfect throws, what more can you say. A good player not only has talent but has the character to build a team. Colt has it all. Sounds like you just like him for some unknown reason. Get your facts straight. Yoy probably did'nt even know that nobody heard of Colt earlier because in high school at Mater Dei he backed up Matt Leinhart. What a waste of my time, I could have took a c--p.

If you want someone else to win the Heisman, then write about them.... but don't publish negative on people, especially outstanding athletes. They don't deserve your mockery. You have lost all your credibility.

Apparently we are now picking Heisman winners relative to their performances in previous years. Good to know. Somebody should tell the voters and the rest of the country though.
Unfortunately the word is already out that if somebody isn't a Junior or Senior they need to grow a little more facial hair before they can go to New York. Although I'm not completely sold yet, it would be a shame if Tebow doesn't win simply because he has two more shots at the trophy.

Here's a plain and simple fact
"Old stats don't win games, winners win games" and thats what he does, plain and simple...

Also, in the beginning of the season when the game was under control they took colt out of the game.

Focus, Zander, for just a few seconds. No one is complaining about having to play road games, or playing in bad weather. I am saying you're an idiot for comparing home games to road games, fair weather to bad weather games, and claiming you see a performance decrease in the team.
*No* team in the country, from any conference, would consider that fair treatment. *Every* team plays better at home than on the road, and better in fair weather than bad weather. Any reasonable person would know this, and not compare the two directly, for *any* team, not just Hawaii.
And while the whole "has not played any decent competition" might have been true in the first half of the season, wins over Nevada, Fresno, and Boise now make that false. Boise is still a top 25 BCS ranked team, with a well-ranked defense. Which means the "haven't played any decent competition" people are now supposed to shut up.

"Not really...the great quarterbacks rally through injuries.
Not totally your fault if you're out but it's to your credit if you're in...please see: Tim Tebow and Chase Daniel."
Great quarterbacks rally through injuries?
The first game Colt sat out was a game Hawaii knew we didn't need him in (and it was a blow out without him). "Rallying through" an injury in such a game would be idiotic, especially if only to pad a bunch of stats that no one will give him credit for anyway. Conversely, he played with a chronic ankle injury in the games Hawaii *did* need him in for much of the first half of the season, which shows he's willing to play through pain and moderate injury when needed.
The second game Colt sat out was the game after he sustained a concussion, and was benched by Coach Jones (minus two token passes) the following week. It is *not* to your credit if you "rally through" a concussion and play: in this day and age its bordering on criminal if your coaching staff allows you to try.
Shoulder bruise != Concussion.
"Great quarterbacks rally through injuries." Such a cute phrase considering its totally detached from reality.

Hey, what about the UNLV game,12 days on the road staying Houston to practice after the squeaker at La
Tech, Brennan sprains his ankle in practice the day before the game, blows out UNLV which includes 3 rushing touchdowns by him all taped up...the guy is just plain gutsy. Maybe not a Heisman season this year with his injuries, but 2 quality years in a row deserves a invite...and this id from a Pac 10 guy

Zander - There are some really big holes in your story. Hawaii's schedule was much harder last year, including a bowl game where they destroyed ASU. Look up Colt's stats in the first 30 minutes of this season - almost 500 yards passing and 6 TD's. (He, along with a couple of his starting receivers were actually in street clothes for the 3rd & 4th qtrs.) Jones pulls out the starters when the game is in hand. He never runs up the score with the 1st string. It's a good thing the other QB's got reps since Colt has been recovering from injuries most of the season - ankle & consussion. Did you happen to witness last week's game against ranked BSU? 'nuff said.

Zander -- You're just a hater of the worst kine. You're a bigot. People make mistakes. Unless you're a monk and have lived in the mountains your whole life, you have no right even bringing up something that Colt has paid the price for. For you to use your "Senior Writer" position to spew hate is not only irresponsible, but flat out wrong.
If you think that Colt doesn't deserve the Heisman because of his play then state that, don't bash him for something stupid that he did early in his college career. I'm an alum and God knows I did some stuff in college that might have been considered "career suicide", but for you to pull this up just shows your stupidity and irrational arguement.
I appreciated your article for what it was, however, I no longer respect you for your moronic approach to a college athlete and student. Hey, why don't you look in your closet and dust off your white hood, jump on your horse and light a few torches for old times sake.

Zander,
How do you know a team is "a nobody," "weaker," or "stronger," for that matter, until the clock ticks to 00:00? Just look at this year's constantly changing standings, aka upsets.
Why must a team run up the score to win? Isn't a win a win? Even by one point? That just proves this whole BCS system is wrong and unfair, but that s another story... And then don t forget to give credit to the Warriors for getting into OT and ending things at 1OTs and not 2 or 3
Yes, you said it yourself, Zander. Raw talent. Yes, Colt is amazing. Colt can throw! And last year he showed he can put up big numbers.
This year you're seeing a whole 'nuther side of Colt. You may think he may not be throwing the same stats, but he did that already. A whole new Colt has emerged.
Colt Brennan has endured to achieve full-on come-from-behind wins. He doesn t let mistakes bother him and comes back fighting. He's played on the road. In inclement weather. On slushy playing conditions. He's played on the road, while injured, and won. Are you aware Colt played hurt when he first injured his ankle? Yep score was UH 49:UNLV 14.
Today Colt and Co. are 11-0. And WAC Champions to boot.
To me he's shown the strength, will, determination, and, if you will, "moxy," QBs need to play at the next level.
Like one of the previous posters said, you must like Colt if you re paying this much attention to him. Suggest you pay closer attention and really get down and dirty and watch him play. Who knows? You may get a kick out of it. I know I do. Every game.
Go Warriors!

Colt SHOULD win the Heisman because he's HI's Man!
He had a great season last year, and sacrificed a lucrative position in the NFL draft to enjoy his final year in Hawaii and give back to the program by not leaving.
I know Brian Brohm did it is as well, and I wish Brian and Colt would both be in New York together because they are examples of great players giving back to their programs.
True fans of Hawaii football know that Washington has played a tough schedule, and nobody is looking at Saturday's game as a given win.
Should Hawaii win, Colt deserves the "HI's Man."
He's shown grit, class, toughness, quickness, humility, and generosity in his short career here.
Colt's stats last year were amazing, and he was pulled in the 3rd quarter for a bunch of games. He's been pulled from two entire games, plus an entire half in the opener this year and his stats are still amazing.
If Colt isn't even in New York this year if Hawaii defeats Washington, then the Heisman voters are tools.
Hey Zander, I wrote the above post about Colt being "HI's Man."
I think you actually did him a favor by bashing on him because your original article has a typo in it - "Cold Brennan." How stupid of you not to proofread your own stuff.
As for your fact-checking, what do you do, surf the web and not watch games?
If you've ever watched a Hawaii game, you'd understand how dangerous Colt is as a passer and a scrambler. Colt is also humble enough so that even when miscues happen where the receivers and the QB aren't on the same page, you never see a receiver OR QB hold their hands palms up asking "what the F*?" Like they're blaming the other guy.
As far as Colt's impact goes, it started when he decided to come back to no-name Hawaii/WAC runner up, did you bother to hunt that video down? He's going to the next level his way - as a WAC conference champion and better prepared for the next level. He's also being prepped for the NFL by doing hypothetical blocking calls - college QBs normally don't need to do this, but NFL QBs do.
Also, part of the reason his backup Tyler Graunke managed a 80+yard, 13-play drive in less than 3 minutes w/no time outs is because Colt dissected defenses so brutally over the last two years that he was pulled early and often.
As for all of your football knowledge and stuff, I guess they let anybody write here. While I'll be pulling for Tim should Colt not get the award, the day you become a Heisman voter means that the Heisman means less than it does now.

Last year Colt was by far the best QB in the country. He apparently didnt win the Heisman because of his stats. Instead Troy Smith won it. Why? Because the voters feel that wins are more important than individual stats. No way was Smith a better QB in any way except that he had the wins.
This year Colt still has numbers that still have him on the top or close to the top in every QB rating even though he missed games due to injury and this year he has thus far gone undefeated. He now has both the stats and the wins. How can you give the Heisman to someone else?
Tebow? Ok he has the 20/20 TD record but what is that compared to the 20+ records Colt has? And really the 20/20 is simply a product of the system. People love to use that excuse for Brennan so why not use it against Tebow. Brennan could have easily ran a bunch of his 5yd TDs instead of throwing it to change his 33/9 to 20/20. McFadden and White are fun to watch but then again so is Brennan just that they do it with their legs while he does it with his arm. And Colt is fun to watch in every game unlike those two who have been pretty much shut down in at least one of their losses. Daniel and Reesing are good QBs but they dont have the records and they have lost.
Now as far as the margin of victory for Hawaii goes how can you blame that on Colt? Did he score that much less? No the defense gave up that much more. And really with the defense giving up so many points that means more pressure to put up points and the fact that Colt did not succumb to that pressure should actually mean more than putting up rediculous numbers with no fear of defeat.

Good. Dont give Colt Brennan the Heisman. Its a curse anyway. How many of those guys won their bowl games? How many of them are still in the NFL and having great careers? Colt Brennan doesnt need a stupid trophy to know how good he is. Everyone in Hawaii knows and soon everyone in the nation will know. With or without the trophy. All his stats last year were way better than any of the other candidates and he comes in sixth behind those guys? This year Tebow has one nice 20/20 stat and all of a sudden he is the greatest QB and the front runner to win? What a croc.

What I believe I know about Colt Brennan:
1. He came back this year to "Win Games".
2. He came back to show respect to Hawaii and pay back his school for their support.
3. He came back to bring Hawaii an Undefeated Season and the first WAC Championship.
4. He has told the media over and over, "I don't care about the stats and the Heisman"...
5. He has told the media how important the "Nations Best Receiving Core" are to Hawaii's and his success.
Colt is smart enough to know all a Heisman Trophy would do for him is put a bigger Target on His Back. If you win all of a sudden you have millions of sore loosers who want to see you fail. If you don't get the curse you have millions of fans who think you got robbed. No brainer..
I quite frankly would like to see him decline the offer for the "free trip". If he does take the Trip I hope he takes the "Dread Heads with him", two on each side. Colt is going to be busy, staying focused and preparing for his debut in the Super Dome.
Colt knows the last game of this Hawaii Team season is the Sugar Bowl and dream come true. It is also the last game of his college career and what everyone in Hawaii and he will remember for the next thirty years. NY and this Political Trophy has absolutely nothing to do with it.

A Heisman trophy is great, but so will a successful NFL career which Colt Brennan will have.

Why Colt didn't put up the numbers like the ones he put up last year is and try to understand this if you can: he doesn't play defense and when his defense gives up 30 points he has to score more than 30 point s to win. While his defense is on the field which is much longer than last years defense cuts into his playing time which cuts his numbers down. You can only put up numbers if you are on the field. Looking at the scores of the games this year only proves he didn't get to play more offense which cuts down his numbers. So don't penalize him because his defense wasn't as good as last year....
