It might have taken longer than expected but Chelsea finally got their target. Ramires has joined Chelsea from Benefica for a fee of 17+ million pounds. The 23 year old Brazilian signed a four year contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit and is expected to be competing for a starting job in the midfield.

This signing is surely a blessing for Chelsea if Ramirez can live up to his potential. Chelsea's midfield lost too many top players like Ballack, Joe Cole, Belletti, and Deco. Benayoun was the replacement brought in to fill the void and now the Ramirez signing will be seen as a necessary move.

Perhaps the bigger news though will be the signing of "Super" Mario Balotelli with Manchester City. The 20 year old striker moves from Inter Milan to Manchester City on a five year deal worth £24 million. The move was expected to have happened much earlier but unfortunately Balotelli's salary demands were said to have put the move in jeopardy. It will be interesting to find out what his salary will be in City.

Also, he will be reunited with his old manager Roberto Mancini. One wonders if Mancini will prefer his "boy" to existing strikers like Santa Cruz, Addebeyor, and Tevez.

Perhaps the bigger question is does City really need him? Is Mancini trying to create "his" team? Also does this mean that it is the end of the road for one the strikers?
