Left Wingers: Who Is the Best in the Premier League?

Salaar Shamsi@SalaarizationSenior Writer IAugust 4, 2008

After the first three editions of "Who Is The Best Of The Premier League" which were based on Central Midfielders, Strikers and the last one on Defensive Midfielders.

They were obviously hugely popular, and there's no stopping now as we turn attention to left wingers and left wingers only.

Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Michael Essien have been our winners so far.

After the first two editions nurtured three pick of the day votes each and the third one received two, I figured they were a hit and who knows maybe this one will gather even more.

I'm picking some contenders, then the readers will hopefully pick the best out of them and in the process we will create another healthy debate, so here goes..

Oh and yeah, forget about Florent Malouda...

Ryan Giggs (Manchester United-Wales)

Ryan Giggs has been a part of Manchester United since the age of 14, He has been a revelation, a loyal servant and the Welsh Wizard so showing no signs of slowing down.

After setting a record number of appearances for United, Giggs is recognized as an Old Trafford legend.

Is he the best?

Joe Cole (Chelsea-England)

Joe Cole has come a long way both for England and Chelsea, he was a prominent part of Mourinho and Grant's plans and probably will be in Scolari's plans as well.

He has become a regular starter, a regular scorer and a defenders nightmare.

Is he the best?

Morten Gamst Pedersen (Blackburn Rovers-Norway)

When he shoots, he scores, he's got a lethal left footed strike, deadly from set pieces, has the ability to provide pin-point crosses, enough said?

Pedersen was earlier linked to the likes of Man Utd and Liverpool.

Is he the best?

Ryan Babel (Liverpool-The Netherlands)

Babel had quite an impact at Anfield last season, he's pacy, he's got the trickery and he has the ability to score goals consistently.

Liverpool's gamble to bring him from Ajax has paid off.

Is he the best?

Ashley Young (Aston Villa-England)

He's got an awful lot of pace and talent, he can cut in or go wide on the flanks, Ashley Young is a player for tomorrow.

Known as Martin O'Neil's "Warrior," Young is an important part of Aston Villa's squad.

Is he the best?

Stewart Downing (Middlesborough-England)

Downing is battling Joe Cole for that England place, he's got potential, he's often described as Boro's most prized assets.

He can also take set pieces.

Is he the best?

Martin Petrov (Manchester City-Bulgarian)

The Bulgarian winger showed last season why Eriksson brought him to the Premier League from Atletico Madrid.

He's a top quality player, he's reliable and has the knack of scoring when it's needed most.

Is he the best?

I'll keep it to seven for this edition, besides who have I missed out on? Taylor? Etherington? Duff? N'Zogbia? Boa Morte? Nani? Malouda? Kilbane?

"No worries, if I've missed out on somebody, your vote in the comments will still count for him."

Remember, we will only be talking about left wingers so don't expect Lampard, Ronaldo or Fabregas to pop out of nowhere.

Who do you think is the best left winger in the Premier League and he doesn't have to be from these seven?
