The Houston Texans were a frustrating team to watch last season, but with these two wins in preseason, I don't think they're going to be like that anymore. Houston has won both of their preseason games, and in their second one, knocked the snot out of New Orleans.

Now, I'm not saying we're going to win the Super Bowl, but we could definitely make it to the playoffs if we do what we have done in the exhibition games.

So after watching these two games, I knew something was different, and boy did I find it! It's our QBs! We haven't changed them or anything, but they're playing like their lives are on the line! That may sound crazy, but I think it may be true!

I don't mean that Schuab is going to die, but right now, GM Rod Smith could easily trade Matt for another good, quality QB, and I wouldn't be surprised if Kubiak had threatened to do that if Matt didn't start producing. It doesn't really matter now as both QBs are healthy, both QBs are putting up points and both our QBs are smoking other teams!

It may only be for a little while longer, but all you Texan fans should sit back and watch Houston v2.0. It may be the biggest highlight of this season.

Now, I'm asking all of you: What do you think is making this team dominate?

I think it's the QBs, but there are a million other things that could be making this team win like Steve Slaton and our running backs.

I'd love to here your response.

This is Ayd Chamberlin, and he is signing out!

  1. Well, a big part of it is the QBs, but I think it's because Matt Schaub just had his first full offseason with the team to prepare this year. Last year, he was traded to Houston from Atlanta in the middle of the offseason and couldn't have gotten as much practice in as he did this year. Now he's gotten comfortable in the system.

Unlike the end of last season, Andre Johnson and Schaub are both healthy, and with Alex Gibbs (zone blocking guru from Denver) coaching the offensive line, Schaub should hopefully see some improved blocking and not get as banged up this year.

Improved play from their draft picks should also help the Texans. Mario Williams finally looked like he should have been drafted over Reggie Bush last season. He'll be a terror on the end of the defensive line this season. The addition of Steve Slaton helps as well since he is a shining star in the running game. Ahman Green and Chris Brown will likely start for now, but Slaton is on his way to filling that role. Green couldn't stay healthy last season, and it hurt the Houston run game.

So overall, this season should show some good improvement for the Texans.

    1. Yeah, Mario is strutting his stuff and I'm looking for 20 sacks from him and maybe something like 78 tackles. Like this kid is really producing and could end up being the leadwr mof the team in a few years.

Now with Schuab, I almost feel like we need one more good Guard as we've got big guards but most of em' don't do to much. So I'm hoping for a better guard if it's through the draft or if we have to get one through trade!

Slaton is actually going to start games if you can believe it. Kubiak loves this kid and after such a productive game I wouldn't be suprised if he starts one fo the next two games. ou've alsogot to remember that Green strained his groin in the first game and even though he's predicted to come back before the regular season start he may not be the same. We do also have Chris Taylor though but he hasn't been improving as much as Gary want's him too,

So yeah, all I know is that this years Texans record will be better than last seasons!

    2. 20 sacks might be a little over the top, but I don't think 12-15 is out of the question. Williams ended the season well and should start strong this year.

A guard would definitely help Schaub out. The O-line in Houston has been pretty terrible, but it now starting to improve.

In the short term, improved RB play could keep the opposing defense more honest and keep them off his back. They should have some of that this year with their free agent signings and Slaton.

Slaton hasn't been named the starter just yet for the regular season, but it's looking like he might be headed that way. I think he might be slated as the starter with the first team for the next preseason game. As of now and even with Green's injury, I think Chris Brown and Ahman Green are ahead of him on the depth chart. The Texans just picked up Marcel Shipp after he was released to fill in while Green is injured as well.

Until a few games into the regular season when they are confident that Slaton can pick up his blocks, he probably won't get a chance to start, but with Brown and Green likely to be banged up this season, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get his chance this year. Maybe sooner than we all expect.

    3. Yeah, you may be write about the number of sacks but I don't know, I could see Mario being the leagues MVP in a few years. I'd still be impressed with 15 sacks though and I don't believe that any of his numnbers will go down this season.

Yeah, even someone like Stacy Andrews would be worth acquiring. So we're probbly going to have to live with our OL this year but I definitely think that it should be our main focus next free agency period.

Tha is a good point, with our RB depth we should probably be able to let Schuab take some rests here and their just so he doesn't get tired and un - healthy. But it'll probably be difficult for us to change to a running game as we've been big passers so I think Rosenfel could start starting some games as i believe we can rely on him.

I still don't know. Kubiak sounded like he as in love with Slaton and even though I agree that Johnson and Green are in front of him on the depth charts, what have they really done? I mean Ahman fumbles quite a bit and can barely switch the ball to his right hand without fumbling. Then Johnson doesn't have such a big downside but he is injury prone and it just takes one huge hit to hurt his hamstring or ankles. Then Slaton, well from what I've heard doesn't have any of those effects and just seems to be better.

Yeah, he'll be named starter real soon and unlike other people, I won't be getting blown away. I'll be shoving this in all those fans faces who think that Slaton isn't good enough to start. That's what I'll be doing!

  2. A fellow Texans fan! It's hard to find them haha......good article but our division strentgh, continued inability to find a running game (which I don't think will be a problem in year 2 of alex gibbs), and our weakness in the secondary are gonna keep us from the playoffs this year again in my opinion. But hey at least for the first time in our history we can even debate whether or not a playoff berth is a real possibility.......besides this team is primed to be very good for a long time.
