This morning, Coach Beamer announced that sophomore wide receiver Zach Luckett is “suspended indefinitely” after being arrested for a DUI.

Luckett has had some problems in the past with his attitude and his demeanor on and off the field, however, he appeared to turn the corner this spring.

Coming into the 2008 season, Luckett was the only receiver with any college experience

so many of the younger guys clearly looked up to him.  In interviews, it seemed that Zach realized his role on the team and was ready to become a mature team leader this coming season.

Now because of this DUI arrest, he will be lucky to remain on the team.  Hopefully Zach can get himself together, grow up some, and return to the team sometime this season.

This is a serious blow to a wide receiver corps that just became more inexperiencedif that’s even possible.

Look for junior Ike Whitaker and freshmen Danny Coale, Dyrell Roberts, Xavier Boyce, and Jarrett Boykin to be the top five wide receivers when the Hokies take the field against the Pirates on Aug. 30.
