The Houston Texans have officially signed Marcel Shipp. Houston was in need of an injury free running back to carry the load with Steve Slaton, and they definitely got that.
Shipp had played for the Arizona Cardinals, but after adding rookie Hightower, Arizona had no more room for Marcel on the roster.
I like this move a lot for a few reasons. One reason is that we'll have perfect depth at the running back position with Green, Taylor, Brown, Slaton, and the newly acquired Shipp. We'll also have options, and that's something we really haven't had at the running back position.

Some people will say that we shouldn't have taken this risk, but I don't think that. I say that risks are part of football.
He is a 30-year-old player. Injuries are going to start limiting his stats, but am I the only one that's able to see his 2007 season rushing TDs? He had 11 rushing TDs last season, and if that doesn't impress you, he's had 21 rushing TDs in his career!
He was also playing on a crappy team (No offense, Card fans!), so what was he supposed to do with a weak offensive line?
That's really all I can report for now, but I'll be sure to keep you posted and will be sure to dig up the terms of Marcel's contract!

While Shipp was a TD vulture in Arizona, I don't know that he takes on that role here in Houston. He may just be added for depth as the team reported he was signed to fill in for an injured Ahman Green. As long as Green returns, he could just as easily find his way out of Houston before the season is out.
Bell took a similar path in and out of Houston because he couldn't pass his physical for the team. I think Shipp can do better than that, but I still say he sits on the depth chart behind an injured Green, Chris Brown and Steve Slaton this season.
Still, nice catch of the latest Texans news. They certainly seem to be giving every free agent RB chances, but strangely enough, haven't even talked to anyone like Shaun Alexander this season. Of course, you can't really blame them. Who wants to talk to that guy?
