Winnipeg Blue Bombers, CFL, Editorial

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have gone into the East Division bye week with a record of 2-7, and surprisingly, they are tied for third in the division with the Hamilton Tigercats. They are just three wins away from a first place spot, and it seems there is hope still for the Bombers.

With A superb performance by Kevin Glenn and the Bombers offence in their last game against the Hamilton Tigercats, it seems Glenn may have his MVP arm back and the offence back in full spin with Milt Stegall back in the lineup. Charles Roberts recorded 145 yards in the game, making that his first 100-yard game of the season.

The Bombers will be playing the 6-1 Saskatchewan Roughriders in their next game, which could be a very interesting game for the Bombers. If Kevin Glenn plays as well as he did in his last game, this game could be a close one. The Bombers also play the Roughriders the following weekend for the Banjo Bowl.

The Bombers will definitely have a better chance of winning at the Banjo Bowl then the Labour Day Classic, because it seems that the Bombers are more efficient in playing at home. The Bombers have allowed an average of 23.4 points per game at home, and have scored an average of 24 points at home. This could be a very close game. Let's hope the Bombers can get a huge win against the Roughriders on September 1st.

  1. Good read!

The Bombers needed this week to get their game plan for the second half of the season. With the rest let's hope they can back into contention before it's too late. Glenn should have a strong second half. Roberts is back into the running game and Stegall is hopefully back in full swing.

  2. I have to agree with you. With Glenn and Stegall on the passing game, not to forget Armstrong, Edwards and company, plus Charles Roberts in the improved version, this second half could be a playoff-ending run for the Bombers.

  3. I'm just glad the LDC is finally in the near future. Either of you guys planning the trip down for the game?

    1. I wish haha. However, I might ask my dad about the Banjo Bowl.

  4. This SK double header is do-able with all of SK's injuries. Their luck has to run out eventually!

  5. First of all, not 2 and 7......2 and 6. That picture says it all and with the controversy of what on what Berry says to his players and how he says it can demoralize players.....particulary the younger ones.
I regard to Westwoods column on what was said in the locker room as far the players being around not because they are better but cheaper.
Words should be chosen as to what would motivate the majority of players in the locker room. It's all in the way that it is said and how...including facial expression. If the coach portrays it as negative with a frown, players of weaker character will react differently than if its portrayed it positively with a smile. It is a tough job but one that Berry to be accountable for.

  6. Coach Berry didn't get where he is today by TRYING to be a certain way. He IS who HE IS. And thats good enough for a lot of people who've employed him, with success, in the past.

I went to catholic school where, as a linebacker, I was literally asked to crawl down my oppositions throat and tear him a new you-know-what. That feat being all but impossible, I made it my goal to make the other teams running backs and receivers noses run every time I hit them. My coach was a sweet guy off the field but the intensity required in some systems, his particularly, should never be questioned.

If you are looking for an indicator, look more towards if his players respect his system. Remember football is war with refs.
