Deuce McAllister Impressive, New Orleans Saints Lose 14-10

Bleacher ReportAug 28, 2008

New Orleans Saints' running back was impressive in one of his first games after coming off a major knee injury last year. He carried 11 times for 40 yards. He looked ready for the season.

Jason David made an interception but didn't really help his case any after committing a few bad plays. Don't look for Tyler Palko to make the roster, he was four of 14 for 36 yards and didn't look real good. Mark Brunell on the other hand, completed six out of nine passes for 31 yards and a touchdown to Lance Moore.

First round pick Sedrick Ellis knocked the ball out of fellow rookie Chad Henne's grasp and Bryan Young came up with the football. Tracy Porter looked solid as did Mike McKenzie with McKenzie nearly making an interception.

The leading receiver was Terrance Copper who caught two passes for 19 yards, one of those being a 13-yard reception. Skyler Green caught a pass for 15 yards but don't hold your breath on him making the final 53 man roster.

The kicking battle seemed to favor veteran Martin Gramatica over rookie Taylor Mehlaff, Mehlaff missed a field goal and Gramatica made a 40 yarder keeping him perfect as a Saint.

Mehlaff, who was drafted by the team in the sixth round of th 2008 NFL Draft, cannot seem to kick as deep on kickoffs in games as he can in practice, and that may soon eventually lead to his being cut.

The regular season opener against Tampa Bay at the Louisiana Superdome still hangs in the air due to the threat of soon-to-be Hurricane Gustav. Saints' officials said that if they are forced to evacuate, they will head for Indianapolis instead of San Antonio as predicted. Stay tuned.
