Brock Lesnar has a lot of potential.  He can out-wrestle everyone in MMA.  At the same time he is very full of himself, and he honestly believes that he is unstoppable.

No doubt Lesnar believes that Mir won by a total fluke.  The fact that Mir had set him up for that leg lock has no effect on the way he feels, or on anyone else that is on his bandwagon.

They use the excuse that if Brock were allowed to hit Mir in the back of the head then it wouldn't have been that way.  Accident or not, a strike to the back of the head is an illegal blow.

There honestly shouldn't have been a deduction, since the strike was circumstantial, but the point had no impact on the fight since Lesnar couldn't even make it out of the first round.

Lesnar beat Heath Herring. It's impressive for a rookie to beat a veteran.  But he couldn't finish Herring.  Lesnar had Herring hurt from the beginning of the fight, and couldn't put together a finish.

Let some of the other wrestlers that actually have experience get someone in a situation like that. Even Koscheck would have finished the fight.

What it all boils down to is Brock Lesnar is no more than an overgrown Sean Sherk, and once someone with technical ability gets hold of him he will be embarrassed the same way.

Randy Couture can beat Lesnar.  So can Arlovski, Barnett, Big Nog, Mir, Werdum, and Fedor.  I also believe that Cro-Cop, Gonzaga, and Sylvia could beat him if not give him a run for his money.

Heath Herring has even asked Dana for a rematch.  He didn't know what exactly to expect from Lesnar, and the fact that he has a big right hand doesn't make him a real threat in a stand-up fight.

Not to mention that his overall attitude sucks.  I watched Lesnar and Herring again. Lesnar shoved Herring at the end of the first round, acting like a cowboy. This could have been a huge mistake if he had tried it earlier in the match because it gave up his position. He pointed while laughing in Herring's face.

Lesnar is nothing more than an over-age bully that hasn't yet graduated mentally past the fifth grade.

  1. Lesnar shoving Herring, and acting like a cowboy were at two different times in the match, but my poor writing made the editor combine the two of them.

  2. I enjoyed this article very much. At least you have the guts to go against popular opinion and are able to support what you believe. Of course, if you remember I got bashed so hard when I went against "the Next Big Thing" that I ended up writing a pro-Brock version instead. ongratulations for going with your convictions.

    1. I forgot I was supposed to send it to you first...I guess I just got so tired of seeing all the articles saying how great he is...to me a lay and pray style is nothing to be proud of. Tito Ortiz used to finish fights with g-n-p. So did other wrestlers, but I think those days are pretty much over...ground and pound is to soften the opponent up for a finish now, I don't think he has it in him.

    2. y gosh, don't ever try to send something to me first, eith my luck it would get lost. Nobody needs my approval to voice their own opinion anyway. So don't ever worry about that.

    3. Dee, it just shows the amount of respect we all have for you. Keep up the good work.

    4. It wasn't for approval it was just like hey check this out first kinda thing. I would be interested in your feedback on it, but I wouldn't completely change it for anyone, because it is my opinion...I guess it's just one of those respect for your knowledge of the game, and I was going to let you check it out first to see if I forgot anything.

    5. Your instincts are great. you did a fine job!

  3. I think these antics are from his WWE days and the only way he knows how to "sell a fight". All that aside he does have potential but your right in the he seems to believe his own hype and sadly its up to him to live up to his potential something that may not happen. We will see how he handles a serious whooping that day will come weather its Couture, Big Nog or whoever, a true fighter learns from a beat down and rises above.

    1. That's the thing though...once he loses then excuses are thrown out like it was luck or whatever.

  4. Yeah I go out of my way not to be one of those type of fans. Excuses are pointless especially once all is said and done. Like the Mir fight as you said Luck didn't matter because it never made it out of the first round.

    1. If that was the case then he hit Herring with a lucky punch in their fight that hurt him the whole time, and took him out of his gameplan...it's like the what if fans...what if Mir didn't luck into his submission hold.
Well what if your aunt had balls...she'd be your uncle. Makes as much sense right?
I am with you on the excuses part, what happened happened and it shows that his submission defense is no where near ready.

    2. I agree with you on all points. But I will go a little further but in a different direction. Not to make excuses for Lesnar, he only has 3 pro fights under him. Considering his opponents were a former HW champ, a top-10 HW and a nobody that he disposed off in about a minute, he isn't doing too bad. I agree that he is not as good as people think he is BUT he can be. He has all the tools - skill and physical attributes. I don't believe he deserves a title shot. But if he wins, who are we to say he shouldn't be champ? Specially if he wins the next fight against Nog/Mir. I want Randy to win to ground this monster a bit and make him earn everything he gets - but skillful or not, Randy will have a difficult time with Lesnar. Good article though, good reading. Thanks.

    3. Caesar I knew there was a reason I liked you man. I am not doubting his physical strengths one bit. He is naturally talented, but he needs to make the mental transition.
He needs to work on his weaknesses, and he does have them...I just can't stand how there are people afraid to point out his flaws, come on he's not going to come to your house to beat you up, and if he did I will draw Mr. Deep Pockets a map to my house.

    4. Then I would make the excuse that he was lucky he knocked me out so fast

  5. I believe if the Mir fight hadnt been halted for deduct a point a TKO was inevitable from where the fight was in that particular point in time. Thats not a woulda coulda, thats just me remembering Mir flopping around like a fish and actually causing the illegal blows in the process of trying to avoid a severe beating on the ground. That being said Im glad Mir won, hes a better fighter and had more experience. He should have won and so should have Herring. The problem is even with all the experience in the world Brock is just a giant slab of beef with aggression, no matter what your skill level or skill set he is a problem for anyone. I for one think he should earn that title shot in the way someone like Joe Daddy did, or say Fitch. Those guys are twice the mma practitioners that Lesnar is and they had to grind it out to get their shot. THis is all about money and marketing, it makes perfect business sense. That being said, Brock is a tool and once he hones his MMA skills he may be a tool with a belt. I for one am not impressed at all by him and am almost annoyed the UFC is forgoing the true nature of the sport and allowing him to step right into title contention because it will sell PPV buys. It will be a great fight though, he will give Couture some issues, but how does Mir feel beating Lesnar and having to wait over a year to fight nog for a second rate belt just to see if he can fight for the real deal, after Lesnar whom he beat may already have that title. The math doesnt fit unless your a Zuffa owner doing math in your check book.

    1. He hasn't earned it yet...If he wins it he deserves it, but just because of his size and the fact that he was the best at fake fighting doesn't mean he has earned it.

  6. I agree that he definitely hasnt earned it. The funny thing is I think UFC is shooting themselves in the foot with this. Imagine if Brock DID earn it, did fight for say another year and hone the craft of MMA, say he did improve and learn a thing or two beyond the realm of controlling a fighters position, maybe just maybe he would become the true heavyweight champion they want him so badly to be.

    1. Why would you want a champion that is completely two dimensional? It would just leave doubts for everyone. Fedor would destroy him, and that's what UFC wants is the #1 fighter as their champion wouldn't you think?

    2. One would hope that is what the UFC wants.

    3. You don't make any sense on that comment Jason. Not at all.

  7. I must be misrepresenting myself, Im speaking as a realist here, not a fan. I DONT want Brock as the Champ. I just believe Dana will do anything possible to earn dividends on his investment in Brock. I DONT think he has earned the right to fight for UFC gold which men before him have fought so hard to earn. I DONT like the idea of someone who has a name more so than a talent base being a UFC HW champ. I appologize if thats the impression I gave. Im only speaking to the facts that I see before me, in no way shape or form do I support or wish great things for brock. I just know it will come to pass no matter how wrong it may be. Sorry guys, it wasnt my intention to support the man, just point out the obvious aspects of the business that is driving these less than desirable decisions on the part of the UFC.

    1. Facts are that this topic will cause much heated debate in the MMA community. You are not wrong in your assessment that the UFC expects big things for Brock Lesnar. They want him as the face of the HW division and whats easier to sell to Americans than an over fed farm boy wrestler with superhuman power and a controversial attitude that is classified as "meat head". Truth is he IF he manages to win against Randy ( which would only increase his ego ) he can't hold onto that title for long with the likes of Big Nog and if Fedor by some miracle turns up to fight in UFC as ruling HW fighters. Either of this guys could submit Lesnar with ease he has nothing these two haven't faced before in PRIDE. Also up and comers like Shane Carwin or Cain Valasquez ( this guy destroyed wrestler Jake O'Brien in his UFC debut and O'Brien is the guy who beat Herring in his UFC debut in similar fashion to Lesnar.) whom Lesnar should really be fighting. Why isn't he fighting these two? Its because UFC pays Brock a 1/4 mil a fight and plans to get their moneys worth.

    2. That wasn't Cain's UFC debut.

  8. The thing is, you pose the question 'why is everyone so impressed', but you have him as a top ten heavyweight in the world (seeing as how you can't list 10 fighters that you think would beat him). Not bad after three fights, eh? Nonetheless, a very good article; I'm just making a point. Also, I'm of the opinion that even though Brock hasn't earned his shot, if he beats Randy and Big Nog (which is what he needs to be the true UFC Champ) then he's earned it and I'd completely accept him as a worthy champion.

    1. Nail on the head, Robert. Lesnar has three fights and everyone is falling all over themselves here to point out that he isn't the best in the world. Of course he isn't! Of course Fedor would destroy him! Only 13 year old WWE fanboys would dare say otherwise. The fact of the matter remains that if (big "if") Lesnar ends up with the UFC heavyweight belt eight months from now, it'll mean that he beat Randy AND Big Nog (or Mir, but probably Big Nog). In the unlikely event that happens, I hope that everyone will get off their high horses, stop looking down their noses and admit that the guy deserves it. I know I would. Look at the big picture. As for his antics, he didn't do anything over the top. We've all seen Anderson Silva dance. We've seen Tito Ortiz pull out custom made T-shirts. We've seen grave digging motions. We've seen thumb-across-the-throat slash implications. We've seen finger pistols. And we've seen B.J. Penn literally lick up the blood of a fallen opponent. It's no secret what Herring said about Lesnar before the match. If you missed it, youtube is free, go sign up and check it out. Then he made a big deal out of coming out first and had that switched around (despite the fact that it was in Lesnar's home town). I, for one, love to see humility (GSP is my favorite fighter), but I'm not going to hold everybody to his standard. Hell, Kongo was three times more rude than Lesnar, but nobody noticed because he's French and we all just sort of expect it. Anyway, like I said (and Robert said) this thing is set up to take care of itself. If he's holding the belt next summer, maybe the naysayers will give him a break. If not, we can all breathe a sigh of relief and know that someone who climbed the ladder one rung at the time is in possesion of it.

    2. I was just saying what is so impressive to where he jumps the ladder like that? Heath Herring wasn't worthy of a title shot, but for some reason, since Brock won a match in UFC then he is here to stay? it's just that everyone tends to believe that he really is this unstoppable force, and the only reason that he has lost was a fluke...not due to his lack of submission defense.

    3. Thanks for the comments Brad. Well said. I do think that he will definitely beat Couture. He probably wouldn't be ready for Big Nog (we'll see how good he looks vs Couture) but I think he'd definitely have a chance in that fight. His best chance would probably be on the feet (just because of all that power) and he could certainly keep it there basically as long as he wanted. Big Nog might be able to pull guard but it'd be hard to hold Lesnar there if he doesn't want to be. I'll try not to get ahead of myself any further.

    4. Lesnar's game is the ground, and for someone that wet behind the ears to try and stick to a new game plan is easier said than done...and if they are on the ground at all Nog can submit him.
I think no one is giving Randy the credit he is due, but I guess we'll see if I am wrong on that one at UFC 91

  9. Agreed sir. I feel there are dues being left unpaid if this guys steps in for a belt at this time. While I think he has wealth to learn in the sport I dont necessarily support him. I just know its inevitable and thats the point Im speaking to. Lesnar needs to prove he can A take the belt, and B retain the belt, and to do either of those things he has to prove he can contend over a long haul of fighting at this level. I understand the HW division isnt what it used to be. They need a boost but make the man earn it. Develop a respectable record if not beat more than one top heavyweight before throwing him a bone. What ever happend to Munson, that would be a perfect fight to see what Brock is really capable of. Similar build, strengths, etc. I just know that like it or not, the HW division is on a track to having Brock at the top. If he does beat Randy Nog will rip a limb off at some point there after and this will all be moot. I just feel bad for giving the impression that I support this freak show. Hes got talent, lacks class, and definitely needs to learn a lot before earning my respect or support.

    1. Monson's last fight in the UFC was the most boring fight in the history of MMA imo. Monson vs Sylvia was a mockery of mixed martial arts. Big John actually had to step in and tell them "Hey guys, this is a fight". After that unimpressive showing by Monson I'm glad to see him out of the UFC. He's a pretty boring fighter anyways. He's lost every single one of his fights against big name guys: Liddell, Griffin (before Griffin was big), Ricco, Rizzo, Barnett, and Sylvia. Sorry about my little rant there but I couldn't resist.

  10. Lasnar diffinitely did not show any respect to Herring.
    Thanks for your article.

  11. You said that Couture could beat Lesnar! What happened? Don't quit your day job pal! LMAO While fighters like Kimbo were overhyped jokes, someone with Lesnar's strength and speed can train and learn to become one of the top fighters in the world. That's coming from Rampage Jackson, Chuck Lidell after watching him lose to Mir in his debut. The more he trains, the more he will learn.

    1. I agree with you buddy, Brock Lesnar will become a great fighter with time. He is an athletic person, and he trains hard, the guy has a real bright future. P.S. Do I even want to ask about your name??

    2. Brock Lesnar won't train to learn more. He will stay in shape and rely on his natural strength and speed to carry him through, just like he tried to do with football...He had never played football before, and instead of learning the game he stayed on til he got cut, instead of training with some college athletes or whatever he had to do he descided that if he couldn't get by on his natural talent then he would quit.
