Can 72 per cent of text messagesrs be wrong?
YES! They can be wrong, and tonight they were: Sugar Rashad Evans KO'd Chuck Liddell's own trademark Superman overhand punch! And WOW--Liddell was down and out past a ten count and then some.
For sure this was the longest nap that the Iceman has ever taken on the mat in the octagon during a three round fight.
How did Rashad achieve this amazing coup?
By being the same cocky striker that so irked the Iceman's best friend Matt Hughes during the TUF Series when Rich Franklin saw some potential in the young fighter that coach Hughes failed to detect.
- B/R Ticket Guide
Hughes lectured Rashad about his cockiness and later coached him to a win over current teammate Kieth "the Dean of Mean" Jardine.
Tonight Rashad came bogeying into the ring and did not stop mugging for the crowd, to piss off big Chuck and for the camera and folks at home. It was a marvelous show of confidence and pure guts.
After sparing and ducking Chuck's big right hand, and left set 'em up hook to take Chuck down and out with one amazingly awesome shot.
Add Chuck Liddell tasting the mat to the big Sean Salmon kick which put him to sleep in surprising and brutal fashion.
Rashad has proved both himself and the aptness of his nickname in honor of Sugar Ray Robinson.
What a hit! What KO power!
What a happy Grandma Dee watching the action from home.

I can't seem to understand why the antics of BJ Penn and Brock Lesnar disgruntle you, but Rashad Evans' was a "marvelous show of confidence and pure guts."

Matt's got a good point.

I don't like Kimbo Slice or "the running man" who wouldn't stand and trade with Nate Quary either--do you?

After watching the end of the fight, I'm still a little shocked. Not by the fact that Chuck lost, but by the way he did. That might be the most brutal KO I have seen IMO.

I would completely agree with you. For a while I thought they would have to take Chuck out on a stretcher. He sure was out for a very long time.

Ehh, I was very disappointed in this. I know you're wondering why Dorothy. Rashad paraded around the entire first round, and really got lucky..I mean really lucky. Good punch and all, just not very telling of how the first round went. Chuck got very impatient with Rashad, rightly-so, and got caught. It hurt me back in MA all the way from the arena. Poor Chuck, and more poor Matt Hamill...bad showings.

Rashad is so like Muhamad Ali in the early days--when I was young. People hated his cocky attitude and taunting rhymes, particularly the "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" which described his style so well. Boy did people hate him back then; yes, the same ones that sing his praises today. There was a method in the madness and it was very successful.
How many fighters can stand with Liddell without a bruise or blemish?
As the grandkids say Nyah, nyah, nyah! Couldn't touch him!

I can't see where Chuck goes from here. During his post-fight press conference, he still looks to get back to his title. I'm just wondering what other fights are out there for him that would get him back there. A 3rd fight with Rampage? Maybe a fight with Rich Franklin? Machida? I just don't see alot of interesting fights for Liddell to get him back to where he wants to go.

Niether do I, friend. and I don't see it happening.

I got to see this KO live and in living color! There was a split second of silence through out the entire place when Chuck hit the mat. I think everyone was stunned! How could he make the same mistake twice? How could he leave himself wide open? He dropped that left hand and whamo! It was all she wrote! The only thing I have to say is that Rashad could have won some more fans that night but he was too busy show boating after the knock out. He didnt even try to check on Chucks status...not the sign of a true winner in my opinion! There are no lucky punches..just poor defense on Chucks part.

Wow! It must have been horrifying to be there and not be able to do anything while Chuck was laid out on the floor. When Sean Salmon was down and appeared to be having seizure activity Rashad also seemed to be completely unconcerned. How unusual for someone who has worked in a hospital and consequently must have had training in code situations, to ignore someone out on the floor.
Thank you for your eyewitness account. How lucky you were to be there.

I really don't think Rashad means to not care about the welfare of an opponent who he just knocked out. I mean shit, knocking out the ICEMAN, I am surprised he didn't poop in his pants. I mean that was Evans' biggest stage ever and he can celebrate however he wants. To those people who are disturbed about this kind of behavior, let's be real! Whether or not Rashad immediately went to check on Liddell, this should not make an implication that Rashad doesnt care. Why does it matter? Rashad isn't a doctor, and it's the organizations responsibilty to check and take care of a downed fighter. MMA is a tough business and every fighter should know the risks of getting hurt like Chuck did.
Anyways Good article Dorothy,

I am in complete agreement with you Christopher. I love Rashad and he was my pick to win and I sure can't fault him for being so elated when he won.
