It happens to the best...You go through your career seemingly invincible, and one day in spring training, or summer football camp, or on the tennis court (you get the idea), you start making mistakes that seemed to repel you before—now they are common, and bring aches and pains that don't seem to heal as fast anymore.

What is happening you ask? It's simple...Father Time is tapping you on the shoulder; lightly at first, but later it gets your attention more. In a combat sport like MMA, where you must be at peak performance just to compete, and to be a champion, you have achive of a level of fitness and skill that few of us will never know, this level is hard enough to get to, tougher to maintain.

It's the one thing you can't help, and in some of the effects are worse than others.

There are always exceptions, however.

Randy Couture is a freak of nature, at age 44 winning the Heavyweight Belt in the UFC.

Let us all strive to be Randy, but realize there is only one Randy. While I think Chuck Liddell is still able to knock someone out with either hand, it's becoming apparent that these younger, quicker guys are not afraid of him, and have figured out and trained for the Iceman's game plan.

I think in order for Chuck to really come back in the UFC at 205lbs, he will need to start using his ground skills more. Chuck knows BJJ, and he's a great wrestler! Start mixing it up more. I for one would love to see Chuck make someone tapout with a triangle!

I think it's time for a serious reinvention of Chuck as a fighter which should bring back to his roots as a kickboxer/westler/BJJ, Chuck needs to have people start fearing all aspects of his game instead of just taking him out of his current one dimensional style.

Fights I'd like to see:

Chuck Liddell vs. Anderson Silva

Looking forward to Brock Lesnar and Randy Couture

Rich Franklin vs. Forrest Griffin

Urijah Faber vs. BJ Penn

Randy vs. Fedor

  1. I too would love to see the fights you propose, plus Rich Franklin vs Rashad Evans.

  2. SOUNDS A LITTLE LIKE YOU STOLE MY THUNDER ..EVEN STARTED OUT WITH THE SAME SENTENCE...no worries ill overlook it this time..lol

  3. i would love to see chuck reinvent himself as a ground and pound artist and give up on this swing for the fences style. hes going to have to adapt or his next fight will be his last. how can they keep promoting someone when he keeps losing like this.
