Rampage Jackson vs. Wanderlei Silva Fight Pushed Back

Rear NakedSenior Analyst ISeptember 23, 2008

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Wanderlei Silva will fight for a third time, but it does not seem like it will occur in 2008. Initially the bout was being talked about for UFC 91 in November. It would have added to what should be the highest selling PPV in MMA history.

Unfortunately, it is not looking like a possibility any more. The new proposed date is January 31, which is Super Bowl weekend. Also rumored to be on the card is the long awaited rematch between BJ Penn and Georges St-Pierre.

With Affliction planning on holding their rescheduled second event some time in January, it does not surprise me that the UFC would hold back the Jackson/Silva match-up. As we have seen, the UFC is not bashful about going head to head with their competitors. By putting on a stacked event a couple weeks after Affliction's, the UFC wants to show the MMA world how big the gap is between the two promotions.
