I Remember my father once telling me he had paid hard earned cash to go watch a heavyweight boxing match at the nearby Halifax Metro Center, in '79.The two goliath combatants were (deceased) former heavyweight champion Trevor Berbick and his opponent a virtual unknown named Bernardo Mercado. My father excused himself to go to the washroom a few minutes before the main event was due to start.
When he returned to his seat a few minutes later the fight was over.As an amateur, Berbick had soundly beaten Mercado. However, with 10 seconds remaining in the first round of their only professional meeting, Berbick walked into a punch and was knocked out cold. This is part of the problem I have with making kimbo Slice "main event material" before his time.

On Oct/ 4th Internet back yard bare knuckle fighter Kimbo Slice will once again be a headliner in a main event mixed martial arts event put on by Elite XC.Now don't get me wrong,I am a fight fan first and foremost.I can watch any type of fight as long as it isn't scripted. If you know what i mean, wink wink ,nudge nudge.
The problem here is ,since kimbo has burst on the MMA scene he has been getting way too much spotlight for my liking. It is sort of what we might call the Brock Lesnar hype syndrome in reverse. Brock has had two fights against top quality opponents Frank Mir and Heath Herring. And one fight in another org. named k1,and look what happens.
Now he finds him self fighting against a guy who many believe (including myself) to be one of the top heavyweights of all time Randy Couture. Kimbo on the other hand,is being hand fed easy opponents and treated to headlining privileges.Something just doesn't seem right here. But you know what will happen on fight night Oct 4th? well lets just say this.
I consider myself a hard core fight fanatic. When this fight starts(if i'm not dead or in the hospital),I know I will be pressed up against a tv screen somewhere in metro Halfax or Dartmouth, rooting for kimbo to pound the skull off Ken Glamrock.
As much as I criticize and bash some of these lesser orgs..i still find my self first in line to get out the beer and pizza and get hyped up to watch them. Humans are strange animals.Gowan was right!!

Darn it! I am hoping that Ken will beat Kimbo tp preserve the sanctity of MMA! My oldest son has been a street fighter and a brawler and would of course love to step into Kimbo's life of big bucks and fighting fame, but it would be a farce and unfair to fighters who have dedicated themselves to the sport, just as it was a farce for untried WWE star Brock to step over the bodies of so many low paid UFC fighters to be a headliner after three fights!

..my point exactlly,,,whats wrong with that picture ...ill tell yah...elite xc..doesnt want to lose money by someone with medeocre skills beating the only star they have....and UFC doesnt want to lose money by having there 2 biggest draws sit idle...(its all about money..as usual..
