Well, this is a fitting end to the Nats first season in their new ballpark: On fan appreciation day, their final home game of the year was canceled due to rain. But that wasn’t going to stop the team from appreciating the faithful few who lingered around:
After the rainout was announced, Acta, the coaching staff and the players went out on the field to thank the fans. Souvenirs were thrown in the stands, while a montage of the 2008 season was played on the scoreboard.

You can’t fully grasp the infinite sadness of the whole event until you see this photo of Acta addressing the fans, which says all you need to know:

Up until right now, we’ve been able to have fun with the Nats pathetic season as we countdown to 100 losses. But this image, combined with attempting to imagine what Acta could’ve possibly said to those dozens of fans (we can’t find what he actually said anywhere) and the fact that the game itself was so meaningless that they aren’t even gonna make it up, just makes us really kinda depressed. Just cry “mercy” and end this season now, please.
