The PGA Tour's Fed Ex Cup race is over.
Thank goodness.
Vijay Singh won the $10 million first prize by finishing 22nd in the tour championship, out of 30 players invited. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
There was almost some drama in the event.
A repeat match-up from last Sunday of perpetual choke artist Sergio Garcia and current "the next Tiger Woods challenger" bandwagon driver Anthony Kim happened on Saturday. I foolishly expected to see some trash talking and fist pumping.
Let me put it this way, the highlight reel featured a spectator being taken off on a stretcher after taking one of Kim's tee shots to the dome.
I thought the stretcher looked comfortable and kept thinking how the fan was probably faking it so he could go home and watch football.

This dream pairing resulted in Garcia pulling ahead by three shots, only to give them all back on Sunday and lose in a playoff to Camilo Villegas. But this was only for the tour championship, not for the Fed Ex Cup.
There were actual dreams occurring all over the world during this event.
Vijay won two of the other less competitive events earlier and built up an insurmountable lead in the points race. He only had to finish his round and sign his scorecard this week to take the Fed Ex Cup. And in true end of the season fashion, he phoned it in.
If Federal Express doesn't fire someone in their marketing department over this colossal waste of money, I may have to use the US Post Office to mail my complaints to the PGA Tour.
The Tour is going to have a tough sales job on their hands trying to convince another sponsor to flush so much money on zero ratings events.
Who is the next horribly managed corporate entity that could possibly look at this debacle as effective marketing? Maybe they can call it the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac Cup when the Fed Ex contract expires.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Phil missed a putt to get in the playoff too. Typical.
Can I just pretend the season ended with the Americans bringing home Samuel Ryder's Cup last week?

lol. Couldn't agree more J Michael!
Vijay Singh finishing in 22nd place, 16-strokes behind the leader while winning the much publicised FedEx Cup was just rediculous. Last year the PGA Tour and FedEx got very lucky that Tiger Woods happened to win the Tour Championship. Thanks to Vijay we have now all seen how the FedEx Cup is likely to turn out each year and how utterly rediculous the current system is.
The Tour Championship was a great tournament, but not because it was the final FedEx Cup - that was more or less just a footnote yesterday, but because Kim, Garcia, Mickelson and Villegas were all battling it out for the win. It was just an exciting PGA Tour event and would have had the same atmosphere and excitment whether it was a FedEx Cup event or not.

If it was a full field event, or at least a larger field event it would have been more compelling to me. With only 30 players, you are guaranteed big names in mix on Sunday.

Can't disagree with your comments. I mean it's never going to be like the NCAA basketball tournament. I have to say overall the idea is a good one. It adds another 6 weeks to the golf season, which previously pretty much ended with the PGA Championship every year. The Tour Championship is definitely more interesting under this format. The big money helps. It was kind of cool yesterday that Sergio had a putt that was worth 2 million bucks if he made it.

The tournament had some interesting aspects, but the Fed Ex Cup format could be tweaked to be more exciting in the end.

I loved how the VJ was so nervous about signing his score card. What a loser he is. After his pathetic first round he acted like he had nothing to play for. How glad I am that VJ isn't an American he would have been great in the Ryder Cup.

A 10 million dollar signature, they should have let him stay home.

Hey Michael. I just noticed your message on my blog yesterday. It got me thinking. Sure, I've got enough to say about golf to blog it occasionally. I put up my first post last night if you want to check it out.
