Duke Lacrosse Accuser Is Charged With First-Degree Murder After Stabbing
Crystal Mangum, the woman who was the accuser in the Duke lacrosse rape case, has been charged with first-degree murder and two larceny charges. She found her way back into the news after an altercation a couple of weeks ago.
Per the Associated Press:
Mangum has been jailed since April 3. She was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon in the stabbing of 46-year-old Reginald Daye. He died after nearly two weeks at a hospital.
Mangum falsely accused Duke University lacrosse players of raping her at a 2006 party at which she was hired to perform as a stripper. She's had numerous legal troubles since then.
Some people just can't get out of their own way.
Mangum didn't have a very favorable public image after the way the entire Duke lacrosse saga played out, and now, it's just more evidence to support people's claims.
This isn't looking good for Mangum. Anytime you stab another person and that person ends up dead, you're going away for a long, long time.
As the article points out, this isn't Mangum's first run-in with the law, and that combined with this latest case, is going to be something that throws her behind bars for years and years.
It's a tragic story for everyone involved, because Mangum ruined the reputation of those boys, destroyed her own and then continued to dig herself deeper years after the fact. Some people just attract trouble, and that's going to be Mangum's legacy for the rest of her life.
