Gil Velazquez Living The Dream For Red Sox

Jeff BennettContributor IOctober 7, 2008

Gil Velazquez is playing on the Red Sox 40-man roster that enters the ALCS versus the Tampa Bay Rays.

This is a dubious spot for Gil to be in as he has only played in a handful of major league games.  Up until last week Gil had spent his entire eleven year professional baseball career in the minor leagues.  Gil is a native of Los Angeles, CA, and is a 1998 graduate of Paramount (CA) High School.

The Red Sox have a deep line up but were in need of a back up when Mike Lowell was injured.   Gil is surely living the dream for every young baseball player that serves in the minor league system of any MLB team, or for that matter anyone who has ever played the game and dreamed of playing in the big leagues.
