Is it time to trade Derrek Lee? Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee is a fan favorite among Cubs fans, but could he be hurting the team? He only hit .291 with 20 HR in the three spot, while grounding into the most double plays in the league.

Maybe moving him to the five spot and Soriano to third would make a difference, but it looks like Lee is starting to decline. He has slowed down in the field and was injured through his prime, barely able to hit 20 homeruns over the past two seasons.

Trading Lee while his value is somewhat high would bring in a solid pitcher or two, while opening a spot for the Cubs to make a splash. I'm not saying trade Lee and use some of that money to sign Mark Teixeira, but that would show the Cubs' commitment to winning.

The Angels, Atheltics, Mariners, and Giants are all in the market for a first baseman, and have the prospects worth the Cubs' while. We'll see what happens.

  1. I would trade Lee, but here's the problem: 1) who plays first base then? To trade him for another first baseman who hits lefthanded might be worth a try, but who? and, 2) I would think there is a trade market for Lee, but it's limited. First basemen who hit 20 homers are a dime a dozen. Grnated he plays solid first base, though NOT gold glove level in my opinion. But yes, I think he's too laid back, he's just not the leader he was said to be.

One thing is for sure: we have to break up the righthanded trio of Soriano-Lee-Ramirez. and Soriano is untradeable (unfortunately). We need to get Sori out of the leadoff spot.

    1. what about hoffpauir hes a beast

  2. Hoffpauir is not an every day first baseman. I am a fan favorite of D Lee and would say that if we landed tex then i would say go for it, but its not worth the risk. I have heard some rumors saying that the giants are willing to trade Matt Cain. If that is true we need to hop on that Cain will be a stud and put him as are 5th starter would be sick, but we need to find a bat first to replace Lee or its not worth it.

    1. The Giants would never trade Cain for D-Lee...they would want a lot more than that, like start with Geo Soto for example.

And Hoffpaiur is an unknown, a 28 year old "rookie"...there's a reason. He's too old to be a prospect.

  3. This I know is true it was just a rumor that I heard thats why I said if it was true then we should look into it.

  4. DERREK IF YOU SEE THIS THEY CANT TRADE YOU HAVE ARE MY ALLSTAR IM AM WARING YOUR SHIRT RIGHT NOW THEY CANT TRADE YOU YOUR THE BEST. THE TEAM NEEDS YOU. THE WILL MISS YOU IF YOU GET TRADED. IM CRYING RIGHT NOW
