Over the past few seasons, we have seen several top flight clubs in England come under foreign ownership. Nearly all Premier League clubs are now owned by foreigners.

And it appears now that it is not just the Premier League that's attracting foreign interest. Having found that nearly all clubs in the EPL are taken, Dubai-based Investment Company Zabeel Investments have declared an interest in taking over Championship side Charlton Athletic. According to a club statement, they have apparently made an "indicative cash offer."

It was rumoured that Zabeel Investments were actually interested in taking over Newcastle United, after billionaire owner Mike Ashley declared his intention to sell.

But it appears now they have turned their attentions elsewhere and it looks like Charlton Athletic will follow suit of their Premier League counterparts and become the latest club to move into foreign ownership.

According to the club statement by Charlton Athletic, it seems like an agreement could be the best for both parties.

"Zabeel Investments had been looking at the opportunity to invest in a leading English football club and had been monitoring the situation at Charlton Athletic Football Club closely.

"In spite of being approached by various English football clubs as well as a number of well-known clubs in Europe and South America, Zabeel Investments believes Charlton is the right club for them."

It was rumoured that Zabeel Investments were ready to offer £450 million for Newcastle United. I'm sure it won't cost nowhere near that much to purchase Charlton Athletic, but if they have that amount of money to invest, surely the future can only be bright for Charlton; if they choose to accept, that is.

  1. it can only be a good thing for us, the only way is up with foriegn investors at the moment and to stay in the competition it would be the best option for us. it would be sensible spending anyway if they came in, its not like we stand a chance of attracting big names like fat ronaldo to the valley!

    1. yeah i'm they would spend sensibly should they come in. they might not attract superstars, but they could still get some big names in, top players in the championship or decent players in the epl, etc. they seem committed to charlton as well, which is always a good thing. i just hope some foreigners come in and buy my local team, the mighty gillingham fc!

  2. Charlton deserves abit of fortune, they are a hard working club. He isnt an abramavich but he has a fair amount of money that he's willing to spend on charlton. Good for them :)

    1. yeah it looks charlton won't have any financial worries for next few years or so. thanks for the comment ben :)

  3. Its awesome to know that the uae strives to be the best at everything, but they cannot ignore problems within the country right??
