Illinois Basketball: Michael Orris Receives 2012 Scholarship

Jonah PulsCorrespondent IApril 22, 2011

Illinois fans have found themselves bewildered after a surprising move by basketball coach Bruce Weber.

Weber offered 2012 point guard Michael Orris a scholarship, after Orris took a campus visit during the week.

Orris who is 6'2", 180 lbs., from Crete Monee High School, impressed the Illinois staff enough to gain the scholarship offer.  Orris is not widely known, as his only offer at this point is from Illinois.

Orris is also talking to Butler, Creighton, Drake, Green Bay, Loyola (IL), Nevada, UIC and William & Mary. While excited about the offer, Orris says he plans to take several other visits before making a final decision.

Neither Scout nor Rivals have a ranking on Orris. His talent has not been said to be at a supreme level, but is still thought of as a top point-guard in Illinois and is a good floor general—something Illinois has been lacking since the departure of Chester Frazier.
